Janet Lail Sipe, 55, of Taylorsville went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2014, at Catawba Regional Hospice, with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Catawba County on June 10, 1958, to Shirley D. Lail and the late A.C. Lail. Janet graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1976 and attended Appalachian State University. She worked in dermatology for 27 years. An avid singer and lover of music, Janet was a member of Christian Community Fellowship's worship team and sang with several ladies' trios. Janet was a volunteer at Caring Hearts Pregnancy Center of Alexander County, a Gideon auxiliary member of the Taylorsville Gideon camp, and she loved studying God's Word. She was well loved and a friend to many.
Janet is survived by her husband of 12 years, Tony R. Sipe; two stepchildren, Will and Emily Sipe; one grandchild, Bentley Sipe; mother, Shirley D. Lail; sister, Cherry L. Stilwell and husband Steve; nephew, Doran Stilwell; and one brother, Neal A. Lail.
The service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at New Life Christian Fellowship located on U.S. 64 East in Taylorsville with the Rev. Neil Bowman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catawba Regional Hospice at 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658, or to Gideon International Taylorsville Camp at P.O. Box 517, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
Josephine Colbert Harper 67, of Lenoir was called home by her Lord and Savior on Feb. 26, 2014, at the Lenoir Health Care Center. Josephine was born on Jan. 20, 1947, in Caldwell County. Josephine was daughter of the late William Gus Colbert and Katie Albert Tilley Colbert. Josephine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Lacey Harper; stepson, Ted Sloan; sister, Mary Linda Sloan; and brother, Everette Tilley.
Mrs. Harper was a member of the Kingdom Hall. Josephine worked for 20 yrs as a CNA at Lenoir Health Care Center. Josephine also worked for Broyhill Furniture Industry and Camelot Minor.
Mrs. Harper is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Harper (Johnny) and Carolyn Ferguson (James Tugman); brothers, Freddy Colbert (Beatrice) and Jerry Lee Colbert ( Della); stepdaughter, Dianne Sloan; all of Lenoir; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Kimberly Ann Westbrook, 43, of Hudson passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Kim was a 1987 graduate of South Caldwell High School and a 2005 graduate of Concordia College in Kansas City, Mo., where she graduated number one in her class in Dental Assisting. She was a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. She is survived by her son, Timothy James “TJ” Westbrook, and her husband, Timothy L. Westbrook. She is also survived by her mother, Patricia Pitts Ernst, and father, Dr. J.D. Robinette.
There will be a private memorial service for the immediate family. Memorials in Kim’s name should be made to Wounded Warriors Project, National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758540, Topeka, KS 66675-8540.

Philip Robbins Broyhill passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born May 16, 1956, in Lenoir. He graduated from the Asheville School, attended Duke University and Wake Forest University, and graduated from Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. He also completed rigorous wilderness training in his youth at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Wyoming.
Philip was an accomplished, award-winning, and prolific artist. He worked and exhibited in a number of studios in the Boston area over the last 30 years, and was constantly striving to reach his maximum creative potential through his paintings and pencil sketches. One of his paintings was selected for an award by the State of Massachusetts. He had recently moved to North Carolina, where he was beginning to make his presence known in the artistic community.
In addition to his artistic gifts, Phil was blessed with a gentle and compassionate nature. He was deeply spiritual and tried to see only good in everyone he met. He volunteered as a reader to the blind, and completed certification as a peer counselor. Philip was an avid reader and took a great interest in current events and history and served on the Board of WestBridge Community Services of Boston for a number of years.
He is survived by his parents, James T. and Louise R. Broyhill; a sister, Marilyn Broyhill Beach and her husband, Robert T. Beach; a brother, J. Edgar Broyhill and his wife, Melanie P. Broyhill; six nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
The family will receive friends in at Pendry’s Funeral Home (522 Wilkesboro Blvd. SE, Lenoir) on Saturday, March 8, from 10-11:30 a.m. followed by a private burial service at the Broyhill family cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Philip Robbins Broyhill Memorial Fund at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Development office, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC.

Mary Lou Tester, 78, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Watauga County on May 17, 1935, to the late Eli London Ward and Ivy Davis Ward. She was married to the late William Jackson Tester.
Mrs. Tester is survived by her children, Phillip Tester and wife Ina, John Tester and wife Rachel, Ivy Tyndall and husband Wilbur, Amos Tester, London Tester, Shellabell Tester and Buddy Tester; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Mrs. Tester will be held at Matney Cemetery in Valle Crucis on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 3:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 12 until 1 prior to the service.

Barbra Ann Townsend passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Caldwell County to the late Leroy and Alta Mae Townsend.
She is survived by numerous relatives.
Services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Rick Bowman and the Rev. Alvin Woodruff officiating.
