Edna Wright

Edna Dobbins Wright, 78, formerly of Hamptonville passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Caldwell County Hospice in Lenoir. She was born Sept. 16, 1935, in Yadkin County to the late Elmer and Nellie Myers Dobbins. Mrs. Wright was retired from Candle Corporation of America and worked for several years with Lucia Inc. She was a faithful member of Swan Creek Baptist Church, where she served the church faithfully, working in the Nursery for over 30 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Guy D. Wright, and by her sister, Irene Dobbins Wagoner. Surviving are her daughter, Renee Wright Davis and husband James of Lenoir; her son, Ray Wright of Charlotte; her two grandchildren, Carson and Tori Davis; a niece, Mae Barker and husband Dannie; and other extended family members. The family received friends Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Swan Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Bishop. She will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to either the Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645, or to Swan Creek Baptist Church, Swan Creek Road, Jonesville, NC 28642. Benny Austin Jr.

Benjamin Franklin "Benny" Austin Jr., 70, of 1262 Kaylor Drive, Granite Falls, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.

Funeral services for "Benny" Austin were conducted Monday afternoon, March 10, 2014. Burial followed in the Winkler Cemetery.

Pauline Thronburg

Pauline Pennell Thronburg, 88, of 1691 Draco Road, Lenoir, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at Lenoir Park Assisted Living after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Alabama to the late Coy Pennell Sr. and Myrtle Teeters Pennell. She was a homemaker, care giver and the oldest member of Dover Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jennings Thronburg; one brother, Coy Pennell Jr.; and two sisters, Addie Ruth Yount and Betty Reid.

She is survived by two sisters, Willie Brown of Lenoir and Maude Walker (husband Bobby) of Lenoir.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at Dover Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Burnette will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service.

Conard Greer

Conard Dwight Greer, 80, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.

Mr. Greer was born in Watauga County to the late Robert Dewey Greer and Julie Rose Phillips Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Forte Greer and his siblings, Reba Greer, Arthur John Greer, Cecil Lee Greer, Joyce Carolyn McNeil, Earlene Greer and R. D. Greer. He was a truck driver in the furniture industry and a proud veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist church and a member of the Wednesday morning Hardee’s gang.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Regina G. Hair and husband Kenneth of Lenoir, Teresa G. Chester and husband Bill of Hickory, and Melissa G. Curtis and husband Harold of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, Jessica Curtis-Yount and husband Michael, Colby A. Chester and Kenneth W. Hair and wife Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Adalyn June Yount; his sisters, Treva Barnett of Lenoir, Louise Triplett of Granite Falls, Mary Rhymer of Wilkesboro and Shirley Armentrout of Lenoir.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend John Gray and Reverend Doug Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends and family at the home of Mr. Greer.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Greer, Jerry Greer, Terry McDonald, Larry Barnette, Claude Shew and Jeff King.

Janice Anders

Janice Carol Lingle Anders, 66, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Lenoir HealthCare. She was born in Watauga County on Aug. 14, 1947, to the late Barney Lingle and Essie Aldridge Lingle.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Mae Jones, and her son James Leonard Jones.

Mrs. Anders is survived by her children, Kim Scearce and husband Alexander, Timothy Allen Jones, and Melissa Carol Coffey and husband Jesse; brothers, Gary Lingle, Dale Lingle, and Lee Lingle; grandchildren, Peter Scearce, Jason Scearce, Caylan Jones, Brittany Jones, Taylor Carlton, Cody Braswell, and Karrissa Jones; and great-grandson, Tyler Alan Shook Jr.

A celebration of Mrs. Anders life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 12 noon. Burial will be private.

Margaret Reid

Margaret Stokes Reid, 84, of Lenoir, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Trinity Ridge Nursing. She was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Caldwell County to the late Carl Asbury Stokes and Pansy Swanson Stokes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen Stokes, Sidney Stokes and Carroll Stokes; and one sister, Estelle Walsh.

Ms. Reid was retired from the furniture industry.

Survivors include one son, Raymond Reid and fiancée Jamie Burleson of Marion; two brothers, Bill Stokes of Morganton and Fred Stokes of Charlotte; three sisters, Carlotta Esmoris and Sue Sampson, both of Seattle, Wash., and Virginia Barlowe of Lenoir; two grandchildren, Scott Reid and Dawn Shaver; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Travis, Lindsey and Nate; and special friend Kyle Ollis.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Bryan Davis.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Eddie Hall

Eddie Hall, 67, of Lenoir died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Rick Church

Ricky “Rick” Harding Church, 65, of Hickory passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Asheville.

Born May 15, 1948, in Davidson County, he was the son of the late Warren S. Church and Ruth Gladys Pope.

Rick was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he earned the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He had worked for over 30 years with Hickory White and Sherrill Furniture.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, as well as coaching his children's youth sports teams.

Mr. Church is survived by his wife, Diane McNeely Church of the home; three sons, David Church and wife Mandy of Granite Falls, Marc Church and wife Kelly of Granite Falls, and Kevin Canipe and wife Melissa of Hickory; two daughters, Julie Peters and husband Aghi of Hickory, and Christy Davis and husband Chris of Newton; and grandchildren, Alex, Nathan, Caroline, Addison, Luke, Lydia, Eli, Emily, Kortney and another grandchild due in March.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury and the Rev. Paul Deal officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. at the church.
