Grady Murle Hartley of Sunset Street, Granite Falls, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2014, at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, Pine Mountain location in Hudson.
He was born April 14, 1920, in Caldwell County to Tildon and Laura Cannon Hartley. He was a member of the Rock Chapel Church of God in Granite Falls and was retired from Kincaid Furniture Company. An avid fisherman, he pursued this hobby especially after his retirement.
Grady was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Carolyn Hartley; a grandson, David Anthony Hartley; three sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include his spouse of 74 years, Rachel Turner Hartley; a son, Tony and wife Debbie Hartley of Granite Falls; a daughter, Patsy Hartley Burke of Conover; four granddaughters, Rita Hefner of Bethlehem, Pamela Mackie of Long Beach, Calif., Julie Holman of Granite Falls, and April Goudelock of Hudson; six great-grandchildren, Rachel and Shea Hefner of Bethlehem, Aubrey and Ashleigh Holman of Granite Falls, and Gavin and Braeden Goudelock of Hudson; two sisters, Essie Oxford of Georgia, and Vernie Sigmon of Hudson; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
The funeral service will be conducted at Rock Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Nathan Leasure and the Rev. Ron Leasure officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2014, from 2 to 3 p.m, with the funeral following at 3 p.m. Burial will be at the Pinecrest Cemetery in Granite Falls.

Wayne Eugene Crunkleton, 71, of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory.
Born Feb. 27, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of the late Isaac Austin Crunkleton and Ossie Brown Crunkleton.
Mr. Crunkleton was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his son, Gene Crunkleton and wife Sandra of Lenoir; one brother, Gerald Crunkleton of Lenoir; one sister, Joyce Whisnant of Lenoir; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Zachary Crunkleton.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, 11 a.m. at Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Edd Warren officiating. The Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Bass-Smith Granite.

John Richard Whisenant, 93, of Lenoir died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Westwood Hills Nursing Home. He was born May 25, 1920, in Catawba County to the late Ed B. Whisenant and Claudie Teague Whisenant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marcus Whisenant, Elisha Whisenant and Thomas Whisenant; and one sister, Elsie Bowman.
Mr. Whisenant was retired from the furniture industry. He was a charter member at Zack’s Fork Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He also was a United States World War II Navy Veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Richard J. Whisnant of Sumter, S.C., and Bobby Whisnant and wife Diane of Springhill, Tenn.; one daughter, Jeanette Rackley and husband James of Lenoir; one sister, Peggy Childers of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Janet Rackley, James Rackley Jr., Chris Whisnant, Jeff Whisnant, Daniel Whisnant and Jessia Whisnant.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Zack’s Fork Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Jobie Borders. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Frank William Carlton, 71, of Boomer passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. There will be a memorial service at Little Rock Baptist Church, 248 Little Rock Church Road in Boomer, on Saturday, March 15, at 3 p.m., with dinner following the service.
