Tim Madison

Timothy "Tim” Leon Madison, 46, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his residence. Tim was born in Marquette, Mich., on June 23, 1967, to Leon E. Madison and the late Wilma Dean Sharpe. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Tim is survived by his wife, Debra Glazebrooks Madison; father, Leon Madison, and stepmother, Millie Bean Madison; son, Mark Madison; daughter, Cynthia Madison Grumbach of Manheim, Germany; stepdaughter, April Setzer; stepson, Jeff Crisp; brothers, Randy N. Madison and Gregory E. Madison; granddaughter, Anika Grumbach; step-granddaughter, Caitlyn Crisp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Todd Cardwell officiating. Military Honors will be provided.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to: Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Paul Huskey

Paul Edgar Huskey, 85, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care surrounded by his family. He was born in Caldwell County on Aug. 18, 1928, to the late Milas Huskey and Bertie Pritchard Huskey.

Mr. Huskey was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict as an airplane mechanic. He retired from Caldwell Freight Lines and he enjoyed fishing and NASCAR. After retirement he proudly worked for English Construction as an integral part of the construction of the newest edition of U.S. 321.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 68 years, Jean Kaylor Huskey, and his brother, Ernest Huskey.

Mr. Huskey is survived by his daughter, Judy Hatley and husband Troy; daughter, Carolyn Huskey; daughter, Cathy Sigmon and husband Randy; sisters, Idell Good, Marvene Huskey, Josephine Baker, and Delores Younce; brother, W.M. Huskey; grandchildren, Kevin Hatley, Tim Sigmon, Greg Sigmon, Crystal Greer, and Jason Taylor; great-grandchildren, Logan Hatley, Emily Sigmon, Grant Hatley, Allie Greer, Gracie Sigmon, Olivia Taylor, Catherine Sigmon, Madeline Taylor, Kendyl Sigmon, and Mallory Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A celebration of Mr. Huskey’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Evans and the Rev. Jimmy Duffey officiating. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hatley, Tim Sigmon, Greg Sigmon, Jason Taylor, Brandon Rumple, and Jordan Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan and Grant Hatley.

Roy “Jake” Jacob Bryant, 23, of Lenoir passed away on Monday June 9, 2014.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 14, 2014, at 5 p.m. at Cornerstone Cremation Celebration of Life Center.

Loucilla Stamey

Loucilla Mary Keller Stamey, 84, of Valdese died Wednesday, June 11, 2014.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m . at Heritage Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Saturday 10-11 a.m. at Heritage.

Eula Hatley

Eula P. Hatley, 94, of Freezer Locker Road, Hudson, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. She was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late David and Hattie McElyea Potter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Hatley; one daughter, Evelyn Marie Hatley; one son, Charles L. Hatley; two brothers, Arthur Potter and James Potter; and four sisters, Dorothy Schidigger, Betty Jenkins, Doris Potter and Ruth Clawson.

Mrs. Hatley was employed with Caldwell County Schools, where she worked in the cafeteria at Hudson High School. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Bertha Harrison and husband Bob, and Mrs. Gladys Harrison and husband Jake, both of Granite Falls, and Mrs. Carolyn Lail and husband Mike of Hudson; sister, Mrs. Kathy Hodges and husband Reese of Johnson City, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hatley of Hudson; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Wayne White. Interment will follow in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wanda Hammond

Wanda Sue Felts Hammond, 66, of Orchard Drive, Lenoir, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Grace Hospital. She was born March 14, 1948, in Wilkes County to Virginia Myers Felts of Hudson and the late Ivory Felts. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Steven A. Felts, and two grandchildren, Hannah and Montana Eggers.

Ms. Hammond was manager of Fastop Convenience Store. She was a member of Gospel Truth Ministries.

Survivors in addition to her mother, include one son, Barry D. Barnette of Lenoir; two daughters, Tina L. Bryant of Kentucky, and Tammy R. Wilson and husband Dennis of Lenoir; four sisters, Shirley Spears, and Betty Watson and husband Claude, both of Lenoir, Patsy Felts and Sylvia Coffey, both of Hudson; and grandchildren, Jessica Bryant, Justin Coffey, Joshua Barnette and Dakota Eggers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Mike Minton and the Rev. Tim Hawkins. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Coffey, Joshua Barnette, family and friends.

Thomas Howell

Thomas "Tommy" Karen Howell, 60, of Lenior died June 9, 2014.  Funeral Services will be Sunday, June 15, at 3 p.m. in the E.R. Mcgimpsey Sr. Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Reba Scruggs

Reba Cox Scruggs, 80, of Prestwood Drive, Lenoir, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care - Lenoir. She was born Sept. 13, 1933, in Caldwell County to the late Bynum and Nova

Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton E. Scruggs Sr., and sister, Vivian Hamby.

Mrs. Scruggs was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include one son, Chuck Scruggs of Lenoir; one daughter, Vickie Lynn Scruggs of Morganton; and one sister, Wanda Cox Davis of Rutherfordton.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. Todd Braswell.
