Sheila Brooks

Sheila Melton Brooks, 70, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown, S.C.

Born in Lenoir, she was a daughter of the late Francis Wilburn and Florence Eller Melton. She was preceded in death by brothers Johnny and Lamar Melton, and sisters Elwanda Dean, Barbara Story, Virginia Greene and Deane Martin.

Survivors include a son, Todd Brooks of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a daughter, Kimberly Brooks Paul and fiance’ Mike Burcaw of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Anthony Martin, Jordan Paul, Zachary Brooks, Kody Paul, and Jude Brooks; special sisters, Juanita Melton and Nancy Bradley; several nieces and nephews, and a very special niece, Cheryl Garrison.

Services will be held at a later date.

Carol Trivette

Mrs. Carol Jones Trivette, age 62 of Fleetwood passed away Thursday evening, June 20, 2013 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David Long and Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Trivette was born in Watauga County on November 26, 1950 to Samuel Dewey Jones and Ethel Parsons Jones. She was a member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church and sang in the church choir, a Sunday School Teacher, and member of Liberty Belles (ladies missions group).

Mrs. Trivette is preceded in death by her father, Sam Jones.

She is survived by her husband; JC Trivette; two daughters; Amanda Trivette and Misty Billings and husband Shane of Fleetwood; one son; Adam Trivette of Raleigh; her mother; Ethel Jones of Todd; two brothers; Clyde Jones and wife Cathy of Boone and Ray Jones and wife Wanda of Fleetwood; five sisters; Beulah Greer and husband Otis of West Jefferson, Dorothy Watson and husband Richard of Lenoir, Jean Greer and husband Jerry of Lenoir, Mildred Trivette and husband Ervil of Creston, and Virginia Miller and husband Junior of Dover, Del.; three aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Floyd Curtis

Floyd E. “Butch” Curtis, born August 5, 1942 in Richmond, VA went to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital after a short stay due to respiratory complications. A longtime resident of the Smokey Creek community, Floyd spent more than 50 years working in the furniture industry and enjoyed his last years with his beloved dogs, Hershey and Snickers. Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Curtis, a daughter, Susan Curtis and nephews, Greg Townsend and Andy Curtis.

Survivors include his sisters, Ms. Ada Curtis, of Lenoir, and Mrs. Linda Bugielski and husband Lawrence of Lenoir; one brother, Jack Curtis and wife Barbara of Greensboro, NC; nephew, Jason Bugielski and wife Karen along with their children, Hunter, Logan, and Makayla of Lenoir.  Neice, Teresa Curtis Fudge and husband Steve along with their children, Travis and Catherine of Fuqay-Varina, NC, niece, Donna Curtis, wife of Andy Curtis, deceased, along with their children Hunter and Kasey of Climax, NC. Also left to cherish his memory were his special friends, Mr. Conley and Mrs. Karen Coffey of Lenoir.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in Pendry’s Chapel at 11 a.m. with Reverend Raymond Spann officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.  Receiving of friends will be an hour prior to the service.

Wallace Watson

Wallace Wade Watson, 69, of Lenoir, NC died of natural causes at his home on July 21, 2013.  Mr. Watson was born on July 4, 1943 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence Watson and Gladys Cozort Watson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cpl. Richard Watson, and three sisters, Alene Walker of Myrtle Beach, SC, Arlene Cikanek of Northville, Michigan, and Miladeen Shoemake of Lenoir.

Survivors include his son Travis and wife Denise Watson, of Wake Forest, NC; brothers, Edward and wife Eunice Watson of Lenoir, Barry Watson and wife Patty of Moutain City, TN; sisters, Mary Estes of Lenoir, Betty Canter of Rhodhiss, Reba Watson of Lenoir, and Lena Roland of Granite Falls.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he was always willing to entertain and help find the perfect automobile.  

Mr. Watson was a master mechanic, and he had his talents recognized early in his military service.  He was originally trained to be a medical nurse in the United States Army spending some time in Germany.  He was an expert rifleman and sharp shooter and earned the National Defense Service Medal.  During this time, his natural talent for auto mechanics was recognized, and his military duties quickly shifted away from the medical field.  Once home in Caldwell County, Mr. Watson gained certifications in auto mechanics from Caldwell Community College and became a leader in Charlotte, NC where he managed many dealerships service departments.

Upon retirement, Mr. Watson returned home to Lenoir where he spent much time hunting and fishing.  He made many friends at the car shows in Lenoir. He continued with the love of automobiles working on classic cars for friends. Mr. Watson attended Confidence Advent Christian Church.  

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 11 A.M. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Norm Sherwood officiating.  Receiving of friends will be from 10 am to 11 am Monday. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge.
