Marjorie Williams

Marjorie Helton Williams, 81, of Taubrook Place, Lenoir, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Shaire Center. She was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Caldwell County to the late Ralph and Lois Woodward Helton.

Mrs. Williams was retired from American Efird Mills. She was a loyal member of Central Baptist Church for 30 years, where she was a choir member and member of the social committee.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Williams of the home; one son, Sammy Williams and wife Vicki of Lenoir; one brother, Sonny Helton and wife Deana of Lenoir; two sisters, Juanita Poovey and husband Charles of Lenoir, and Sylvia Pate of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Lee Williams, Lindsay Fusaiotti, Christina Waggett, Alex Williams and David Williams; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Central Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Jernigan. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Dan Fusaiotti, Blair Waggett, Lee Williams, Alex Williams, David Williams and Donald Helton.

The Lenoir Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

William Roark

William Ray Roark Jr., 53, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Watauga County on Oct. 19, 1959, to the late William Ray Roark Sr. and Vivian Neil Wilson Roark. He was the husband of Caroline Cassidy Roark of the home.

Mr. Roark loved gardening and animals, especially his four-legged companion, Brewster, and he enjoyed trips to Disney. He worked for more than 30 years for Thomasville Furniture. Mr. Roark was of Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his aunt, Bessie Wilson and grandmother, Ruth Farmer.

Other than his wife, he is survived by his sons, Richard Roark of Orlando, Fla., and Daniel Roark of Lenoir; brother, Jerry Wilson of Mountain City, Tenn.; sister, Joan Tedder of Fayetteville; and numerous nieces, cousins, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Matt Moody officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. prior to the service in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service.

Margaret Phipps

Margaret Virginia Crump Phipps, 86, of Granite Falls passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Phipps was born in Avery County to the late Theodore Crump and Cansada Coffey Crump.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Philyaw, and her second husband, Lee Phipps; a daughter, Patricia Poarch; a grandson, Brian Philyaw; a great-grandson, Hunter Philyaw; brothers, Carl Crump and Spence Crump; and sisters, Minnie Bowen, Kate Jolly, Louise Philyaw, Edna Whisnant, and Annie Lee Whisnant.

She was retired from Caldwell County School System and was a member of Worship Point Baptist Church. She enjoyed canning, loved gardening and could grow anything. She loved Pigeon Forge and loved her canine companion Ginger.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jesse Philyaw (Cindy) of Lenoir, Jerry Philyaw (Mona) of Lenoir and Richard Drum (Glenda) of Newton; her daughters, Thelma Coffey of Lenoir, Sue McJunkin (Dale) of Hudson and Kathy Drye (Aaron) of Sawmills; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Lingerfelt officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Barnes, David Philyaw, Raymond Lovins, Steven Lovins, Dale McJunkin Jr. and Jonathan Philyaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Whisnant, Johnny Duncan, Josh Lovins, Jonathan Kirby, Devin Barnes, and Jarrett Barnes.

Kenneth Bentley

Kenneth Wayne Bentley, 72, of Lenoir went to his heavenly home, Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born July 18, 1940, in Caldwell County to the late Conley and Faye Spears Bentley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Moser Bentley; son, Robin Wayne Bentley; daughter, Penny Sue Huskey; and three brothers, Clyde, Collis and Stanley.

Mr. Bentley was a self-employed roofer and attended Crossroads Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye.

Survivors include four brothers, Fred Bentley, Major Bentley, Jay Van Bentley and Kelly Bentley, all of Lenoir; sisters, Lorene, Irene, Susie and Gail; two grandchildren, Charity Sigmon and husband Brandon of Newton, and Thomas Bentley of Florida; and two great-grandchildren, Bryson Sigmon of Newton and Mileigh Butler of Florida.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bill Bentley. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Lee Huffman, Gene Avery, Brandon Sigmon, Tyler Clark, Frankie Bentley and Chris Bentley.
