Allie Sue Foxx Kirby, 81, of Granite Falls passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Center in Lenoir.
Born June 2, 1932, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Erielea Kirby Foxx. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, H.P. “Pete” Kirby Jr., and one brother, James Foxx.
Mrs. Kirby was a homemaker, and a member of Grace Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwen Summerlin and son-in-law, Phillip “Mickey” of Granite Falls; one brother, Harold Foxx of Boomer; and a number of in-laws.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013, 4 p.m. at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Leonard and the Rev. Nancy McDow officiating. The family will receive from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Doris Laws Miller, 61, of Newton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
She was born Oct. 25, 1951, in Caldwell County. She was the daughter of the late Richard Jesse Laws and the late Reba Price Laws. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roby Earl Miller and Thelma Potter Miller, and her beloved canine companion, Angel Miller.
Mrs. Miller was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and she was devoted to her Christian faith. Mrs. Miller sang in the church choir and loved language, poetry and songs. She loved to spend time with children and she never met a stranger.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Roby John Miller of the home; her sons, Scott Miller and wife Karen of Moravian Falls, and Derek Miller of Carrboro; two grand-doodles, Hope and Noah; four brothers; Larry, Bruce, Daniel and Roger Laws, and three sisters, Brenda Caldwell, Sandra Church and Ruby Laws.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro with the Rev. Mark Hall and the Rev. John Lewis officiating. The family will be receiving friends for Mrs. Doris Laws Miller at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home Saturday from 7 p.m. until 9 pm.

Raoul Anton Dula, “Oolie,” 34, of Lenoir passed away on June 20, 2013. He was born Oct. 31, 1978, to Katie “Von” Dula and the late Alton “Roddy” Jordan. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rajah Dula, and grandparents, Maggie and Vester Dula and Alton Jordan Sr.
Mr. Dula graduated from West Caldwell High School, Class of '97. While at West Caldwell, he was active in Varsity Basketball, Varsity Football and Junior ROTC. He was an aspiring singer and writer of Rap music and poetry. He also was a former student at CCC&TI. He was an overall sweet and loveable young man exemplifying much respect to everyone he met.
Survivors in addition to his mother include two sons, Nehemiah Chester and Markell Bristol, both of Lenoir; two sisters, Kelly Largent of Morganton and Donnell Suddreth of Charlotte; two brothers, Brian Dula and wife Lisa of Columbia, S.C., and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Quintin Harshaw and wife May of Rochester, Minn.; a special nephew, Rashad “Butter” Jordan; paternal grandmother Olivia Gaither of Lenoir; an aunt, Karen Dula of Lenoir; an uncle, Charles Dula of Lenoir; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. James Perkins. Interment will be private for family only.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:55 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Dula’s friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be West Caldwell High School Class of 1997.

Gertrude Mae Bowman Haigler, 88, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Born Aug. 23, 1924, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Martha Bowman.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Bowman Starnes and Lois Bowman Reid; one nephew, Donald Reid.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, John Dallas “Dal” Haigler, one sister Faye Baird, one brother-in-law, Wayne Haigler. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Edward and Brenda Starnes, Sharon and Wayne Oliver, Robert and Frankie Starnes, Richard and Kathy Starnes, Barry and Belinda Starnes, Sheila and Randy Davis, and Sherry Bowman, Ron and Beth Haigler, Charlotte Haigler, and Laura Haigler; six great nephews; six great nieces; seven great-great nephews; two great-great nieces.
Mrs. Haigler was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, NC. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, following him throughout his military career. She was retired from retail with Woodward & Lothrop in Washington, DC. After retiring and moving back to NC, she spent the remainder of her life loving and supporting her husband and family. She loved working in her garden, in her flowers, and helping on the farm.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 2:30 to 4:00 PM at Shiloh Lutheran Church Hickory, NC in the fellowship hall. A Celebration of Life will follow in the church at 4:00 PM with Rev. Dave Hefner and Rev. Don Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
