Ronald Bates

Ronald Bates, 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 2, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was born Oct. 8, 1946, to the late Elmer Bates and Juanita Brown Scott. Mr. Bates was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents Mr. Bates is preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Scott.

Mr. Bates is survived by two brothers, Doug Bates of Hilderbran and Richard Scott of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Carole Winton of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marsha Malabey and husband Maynard of Hickory; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Mackie Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. David Noland officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered by DAV Chapter 6 of Caldwell County and Chapter 84 of Taylorsville. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will private at a later date in Western NC State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.

Bill Allison

Herbert “Bill” McKinley Allison, 86, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Christian Fellowship Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir.

Kenneth Fox Sr.

Kenneth Owen Fox Sr., 87 of Lenoir passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.

A private Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Walter Ray Martin, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 3, 2014, at his residence.

A Graveside Service will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, 3 p.m. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Grindstaff

Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Davis Grindstaff, 61, of Lenoir and formerly of Marion passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 2, 1953, in McDowell County to the late L.D. and Helen Gentry Davis. Mrs. Grindstaff was a retired registered nurse and also had a degree in accounting. She was a loving caregiver to her husband and son and to her numerous patients throughout her career. Beth will be remembered for her love of music and, in her spare time, writing poetry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Grindy” Grindstaff; one son, Christopher Grindstaff; and two brothers, Ronald Dean Davis and Donald Eugene Davis.

She is survived by one brother, Gary Ray Davis and his wife, Betty; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Davis and Katie Davis; one daughter–in-law, Margaret Grindstaff; and nephews and nieces and many other extended family members. Beth is also survived by her adopted family, Helen Underdown, Donald, Stephanie and Marley Lee and her best friend of 16 years, Drena Underdown.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Mountain Creek Independent Baptist Church, 2232 Bethel Church Road, Marion, NC 28752, with the Rev. Ronnie Gentry officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., prior to the service, at the home of Gary Davis, 1439 W. Tate St., Marion, NC 28752.
