David “Cannonball” Lee Cannon, 49, of Rhodhiss passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born April 20, 1965, in Caldwell County, he was a son of Jimmy Lee and Phyllis Owenby Cannon of Rhodhiss and the husband of Theresea Enloe Cannon of the home.
“Cannonball” was a hard worker, driving for MDI since 1990. David loved spending time with his family and playing with his granddaughter, McKinnley. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Eddie Bentley.
Other than his wife and parents, he is survived by his daughter, Chasity Cannon of Lenoir; two sons, Tyler Cannon of Rhodhiss and Cody Cannon of the home. He is also survived by his sister, Nicole Bentley of Rhodhiss; brother, Phillip Cannon of Granite Falls; and his pride and joy, granddaughter McKinnley Scott and “grandson” Devin Gajus. Surviving also are several other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service followed by a celebration of “Cannonball’s” life at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Rick Bowman officiating. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens
Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Cannon, Greg Cannon, Gary Rash, Terry Rash, Steve Rash, Randy Enloe, Michael Enloe, Reggie Moore and Roger “Hollywood” Sanders.

William Garfield Duncan, 85, of Granite Falls went home to be with his Heavenly Father while at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. Born Sept. 21, 1928, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Clyde McLean Duncan and Lydia Hartley Duncan. He was a member of Clover Baptist Church for many years, where he served in the church choir and attended the Andrews Sunday School class. Bill spread the gospel through song throughout his life. He was a member of several gospel groups, including The Harvesters, The Tonesmen, The Samaritans, and Harvest. He retired as quality control director from Kincaid Furniture Co.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Willard Duncan.
Bill is survived by his wife of 18 years, Peggy Watson Duncan, and Elizabeth and Maleah Contreras of the home; son, the Rev. Tim Duncan and wife Sonya of Winston-Salem; daughters, Gwen Carter and husband Tom of Hickory, Lesa Donohue and husband Sean of Clemmons, and Tracy Edwards and husband Zane of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, James (Tonya) Starbuck, III, Shannon Nichols, Mark (Allison) Duncan, Matt (Bethany) Duncan, Lydia Duncan, Olivia and Katie Edwards; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Lucy Duncan, Ashley and Zachary Nichols, James Courtney and Sarah Beth Starbuck; and sister, Allie Sue Poe and husband Randall of Hudson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Clover Baptist Church in Granite Falls with the Rev. Keith Childers and the Rev. Tim Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Clover Baptist Church from 1:30-2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Andrews Sunday School class.

She was survived by her children, Nancy Coffey and husband John of Drexel, Linda Edwards and husband Greg of Marion, Thomas Kersey and wife Joanie of Lenoir, Dennis Kersey and wife Becky of Lenoir, and David Kersey of Morganton; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Harriett C. Baird, 67, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Hudson, following a period of declining health.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
