William McAfee

William “Bill” Gravlee McAfee, 61 years old, died on November 30, 2012, in Snellville, Ga., following a brief illness.
Bill graduated from Lenoir High School in 1969 and later attended Montreat Anderson College. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and went on to work for the Dispute Resolution Center of DeKalb County in Decatur, Ga., after retiring from the Air Force. He truly enjoyed the dispute resolution process and his work in the legal field. Other interests include golf, NASCAR,and bowling. He relished being a wonderful father to his two daughters. Bill will be remembered for his kind and gentle heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles O. McAfee Jr.
He is survived by his mother Betty McAfee-Young; daughters, Lucie McAfee-Steffes and Grace Gravlee McAfee; brothers, Charles O. McAfee III, David B. McAfee, Mark M. McAfee, John M. McAfee; sisters, Susan M. Laws and Sarah K. McAfee; one son-in-law Eddie Steffes; and one grandchild, William James Steffes; a special niece, Meghan M. McAfee, and 11 other nieces and nephews.

Wanda Littlejohn

Wanda Haigler Littlejohn, 70, of Playmore Beach Road, Lenoir, went to be with the Lord December 6, 2012. She passed at Carolinas Medical Center following complications from surgery.
She was born March 31 1942, and was the daughter of the late Carl and Roena Haigler. Wanda and her husband Robert were the owners of Littlejohn Cycle, Sales and Service, and she was a member of Littlejohn United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Robert (Bob) Littlejohn; son, Jimmy and wife Bernetta Littlejohn; son, Danny Littlejohn; daughter, Susan and husband Patrick Davidson. She also is survived by brother, Jim and wife Loetta Haigler; and sister, Virginia (Ginger) and husband John Chapman.
She had five grandchildren, Haley Littlejohn, James (Jamie) Littlejohn, Zachary, Luke and Nicole (Niki) Davidson.
Wanda was a committed Christian, devout wife, loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by us all.
A celebration of Mrs. Littlejohn’s life will be held Sunday, December 9, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the graveside at Littlejohn United Methodist Church with Pastor Allen P. Boliek officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service.

Wilma Minton

Mrs. Wilma Mozelle Holden Minton, 84, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012, at her home.  
Born December 27, 1927, in the Whitnel Community of Caldwell County, Mrs. Minton was a daughter of the late Thomas Avery and Grace Triplette Holden, and the wife of the late Herbert Minton.
Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Holden; and sister, Opal Austin.
Mrs. Minton worked for 22 years for American Efird Mills and 37 years with Broyhill Industries.
Now, asleep in Jesus, Mrs. Minton was a charter member of the Church of God of Resurrection Hope where she was a member of the Grace Holden Circle, named for her mother.
She was a loving mother, and always loved flowers and working in her yard, which always reflected her love for God and family.
Surviving is her son, Jimmy Ray Minton and wife Elaine of Perrin, Texas; two daughters, Evelyn Minton Church and husband Dave of Lenoir, and Elaine “Punki” Phillips and husband Dewey of Hudson; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mrs. Minton’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Church of God of Resurrection Hope with Pastor Dennis Baldwin and Pastor James Ritch officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Russell Smith, Jason Phillips, David Phillips, John Smith, Paul Childers and Ryan Greene.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Smith, Dawson Phillips, Ralph Austin and Donald Austin.

Jerry Parson

Jerry Dean Parson, 53, was born to Clyde and Norma Parson September 15, 1959, in Oregon, Ohio.
He came to live with his parents, Jerry and Marilyn Kohnle in April of 1976 in Alexander County, N,C.
He passed December 2, 2012. Jerry was a certified welder and a long-time truck driver and will be missed by all who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by biological parents Clyde Parson Sr. and Norma Parson Woodward; his brother, Clyde Parson Jr.; grandparents, Max Cline Watson, Lois Ruby Watson; and an aunt, Linda Sue Hollar.
He is survived by parents Jerry and Marilyn Kohnle; children, Amber P. Windsor and spouse David, and Jerry T. Parson; siblings David Parson of Orlando Fla., Carolyn Hastings of Clearwater, Fla., Judy Matlock of Houston, Texas, Diann Bolton of Tallahassee, Fla., Steve Kohnle and wife Samantha of Stoney Point, N.C., and Scott Kohnle and wife Rhonda of Pawhuska, Okla.
Receiving will be December 10, 2012, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Burns Road in Granite Falls. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m.
