Frank Lenfestey Jr.

Frank “Frankie” Joseph Lenfestey Jr., 64, of Lenoir passed away peacefully at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. Born April 18, 1949, in Freeport, N.Y., Frankie was a son of the late Frank Joseph Lenfestey Sr. and Elizabeth Jane Gerding Lenfestey.

Frankie was the oldest living person with Smith Magenis Syndrome. Although he had what people consider a disability, Frankie lived each and every day to the fullest, being full of joy, hope and laughter. Frankie enjoyed traveling and shopping. People would often see him in Goodwill or Wal-Mart meeting and greeting his friends. The local restaurant folks would often see Frankie and enjoy his big heart and smile. Frankie truly treated ladies with respect and often greeted them with a kiss on their hand.

He was a big Carolina Panthers fan and was a collector of sports cards. Frankie was the inspiration for the breakfastcluborg.

He is survived by his loving sister, Susie G. Lenfestey, and his “Foster Daddy,” Randy Wood, both of the home; his Uncle and Aunt, Donald and Vivian McCoach of Hubbardsville, N.Y.; his Foster Uncle and Aunt, Sonny and Ruth Johns; Cousins, Donnie, Doug, Dan and Vivian; Nephew, Derrick Wolf; his “Grandchildren,” Finn and Owen Wolf; and many other loving Family and Friends. Frankie is also survived by his pet-buddy, “Scooby Doo,” his dog he rescued and became his friend.

A gathering of Family and Friends will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir.

A Graveside Service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in the Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pa., where Frankie will rest between his Father and Mother.

Harold Dykes

Harold Sidney Dykes, 59, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Feb. 19, 2014, after a long illness at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, at 3 o'clock at West End Mennonite Brethren Church in Lenoir.

Eric Holloway

Eric Bradley Holloway, 45, of Lancaster, S.C., formerly of Hickory, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014.

Eric, son of Douglas and Darnell Holloway, leaves a wife, Marybeth, and sons, Blaize and Flynn.

The family will receive friends 1-3 Saturday, services at 3 at Penelope Baptist Church, Hickory.

Bruce Kirby

Bruce Nelson Kirby, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. He was born in Caldwell County on May 28, 1921, to the late John L. Kirby and Hessie Barlowe Kirby Parlier. Mr. Kirby was married to the late Ruth Broach Kirby for more than 60 years.

Mr. Kirby was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during World War II and stationed in Europe. He was a founder and co-owner of Hibriten Supply Company and was active in the Builder’s Association. He was a former member of the Lower Creek Lion’s Club. Mr. Kirby was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee, RA leader, usher and many other responsibilities over the years.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Hamp Kirby.

Mr. Kirby is survived by his sisters-in-law, Anne Couch of Lenoir, and Jeanette Moore of Danville, Va.; brother-in-law, Tom Broach and wife Marjorie of Lenoir; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration for Mr. Kirby will be held at Lower Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2 with the Rev. Bert Blackburn officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 prior to the service at the church.

John Marshall Fields, 82, Granite Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. Funeral services Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Winklers Grove Baptist Church. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Junior Jackson

Junior Jackson, 65, of Sawmills passed away Feb. 24, 2014. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Mackie Funeral Home, Granite Falls, at a later date.

Elizabeth Gore

Elizabeth Ann Johnson Gore, 60, of Conover passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia, Penn. Born Sept. 9, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Jack Johnson Sr. and Ernestine Corpening Johnson. Elizabeth was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hickory and a lead person at HSM Solutions.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 39 years, Azell Lee Gore; sons, Bobby Stinson and wife Vickey, and Kelsey Stinson; daughters, Shelia Gore and Angela Stinson; brothers, Larry Johnson and wife Betty, Richard Johnson, Leslie Bunn; sister, Carolyn Johnson; grandchildren, Quiasiah Stinson, Shyheim Gore, Keldon Stinson, Shaniece Stinson, and Devotion Hoover; a host of nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory with the Rev. Lloyd King Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday prior to the service.

Josephine Colbert Harper, 67, of Lenoir passed away on Feb. 26, 2014. Services will be private. Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir is assisting the Harper family.

Robert Avery III

Robert Henry Avery III (Butch) of Morganton died Feb. 24, 2014.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. at Willow Tree A.M.E. Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Nancy Bletcher

Nancy Bass Bletcher, 65, of Salisbury died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014.

Formerly of Lenoir, she was a daughter of the late Wilburn E. Bass and Faydelia Haywood Kilbury. A private memorial service will be held March 1, 2014, with the Rev. Ron Burgett officiating.

Eula Hartley

Eula Bolick Hartley, 86, of Melody Lane, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Lenoir Health Care. She was born March 25, 1927, in Cleveland County to the late J. Eli and Verdie Baker Bolick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Bert Hartley; son, John Wesley Hartley; sisters, Ada, Iretha and Emma; and brother, Richard.

Mrs. Hartley was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ray Hartley and wife Lynn of Lenoir; daughter-in-law, Gail Hartley; grandchildren, Carrie Rooks and husband Tim, David Hartley and wife Jodi, and Wayne Hartley and wife Tina; three brothers, Thurston Bolick, Troy Bolick and Toy Bolick; sister, Dottie Griffin; and great-grandchildren, Caris Mundy, Kaidyn Rooks, Tanner Hartley, Aubrey Hartley, Ethan Jones, Connor Rooks and Ava Rooks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Cade Burns and the Rev. Steve Butler. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Hartley, Wayne Hartley, Stoney Hartley, Tim Rooks, Donald Hudson and Steve Benfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Shatley and John Coffey.

Hilda McElveen

Hilda Adams McElveen, 67, of Spring Meadow Road, Lenoir, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the residence. She was born June 13, 1946, in St. Mary’s County, Md., to the late William Aubrey Adams Sr. and Mary Pauline Demko Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley A. Hardman; and brothers, William A. Adams Jr. and Joseph Paul Adams.

Mrs. McElveen was co-owner of Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. She was past member of BPW and Lenoir Woman’s Club.

Survivors include her husband, James E. McElveen of the home; two sons, Darryl Dupont McElveen and wife Katie of Anderson, S.C., and Anthony (Tony) Craig McElveen of Lenoir; one sister, Mrs. Ann A. Scott of Orlando, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Services and interment will be private.
