Angel Sherry Sawyer, 36, of Hudson passed away on Feb. 23, 2014.
Angel was born on July 16, 1977, in Caldwell County to William Douglas Mclean and Evelyn “Jane” Long Lovelace.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her children, Thomas Spears, Samantha Lee Ann Brooke Mclean, and Heaven Lee Storm Eller, all of Hudson. Also surviving is one brother, Christopher Douglas Mclean, and one niece, Hannah “Mclean” Burchett.
A Private Funeral Service is being held today, Sunday, March 2, 2014.
Burial was held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Junior Jackson, 65, from Hudson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014. He was born Nov. 1, 1948, son of the late William Franklin and Retha Mae Hamby Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Watson Jackson, and one brother, Bobby Jackson
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Jackson Chester of Hudson and Annette Jackson of Yuma, Ariz.; one brother, Dale Jackson of Pensacola, Fla.; six sisters, Linda McCall and husband Chuck of Lenoir, Nancy Lowman and husband David of Newton, Monquita Worley and husband Johnny of Granite Falls, Kim Tolbert and husband Jeff of Virginia Beach, Va., Debbie Finley and husband Joey of Lenoir, and Traci Jacobs and husband Mike of Hudson; and three grandchildren, Nathan Chester, Roxie Chester, and Alison Stutzman.
A graveside service will be Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. Lynn Parsons officiating.

Harold Sidney Dykes, 59, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Feb. 19, 2014, after a long illness at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 1, at 3 o'clock at West End Mennonite Brethren Church in Lenoir.
Patricia Gail Gilbert Cobb, 71, of Granite Falls passed away at her residence on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014.
Mrs. Cobb was born in Catawba County to the late Wade Hampton Gilbert and Maxine Ferguson Gilbert on Sept. 4, 1942.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dean Cobb.
Those left to cherish the memory of Patricia Gail Gilbert Cobb include her son, Rodney Taylor of Granite Falls; three grandchildren, Patience Taylor, Birttany Greene, and Brian Lael, all of Lenoir; a brother, Timothy Gilbert of Hickory; and three sisters, Pamela Lyons of Hudson, Debbie Hartley of Granite Falls, and Alegria Davis of Hickory. Mrs. Cobb is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Cobb will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014, at New Vision Baptist Fellowship in Granite Falls with the Rev. Rick Crouse and the Rev. Ashley Crouse officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 1 – 2 p.m.

Fred Morris Edmisten, 89, of Lenoir passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at his home. Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Caldwell County, Mr. Edmisten was a son of the late Grady Harrison and Rosa Byrd Shore Edmisten. He was the husband of Mrs. Betty Sue Braswell Edmisten of the home, to whom they have been married for 63 years.
Edmisten was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He loved fishing and also served on the Board of Directors for the N.C. Farm Bureau.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Freida Edmisten Jones, seven brothers and two sisters.
Surviving other than his wife are a daughter, Paula McLeod of Lenoir, and two sons, Fred Keith Edmisten of Lenoir and Glenn Edmisten and wife Cathy of Easley, S.C. He is also survived by two brothers, James Edmisten and wife Mary, and Robert “Buck” Edmisten, all of Lenoir; grandchildren, David Hinson, Chris McLeod and wife Sandra, Casey Jones and fiancée Jamie Boyatt; Erin Edmisten, and Josh Osborne; and several great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Edmisten’s life will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Mulberry Baptist Church with Pastor James Todd and Pastor Bennett Helton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Mulberry Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Edmisten, Jeff Triplett, Jamie Boyatt, Rodger Crawford, Todd Puett and Gary Jones.

Norma Jean Johnston Barnes, 68, of Lenoir passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born Dec. 21, 1945, in Caldwell County, Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late Everette and Ella Mae Pendergrast Johnston and the wife of Mr. Billy Gene Barnes of the home. She was a homemaker and a member of New Haven Baptist Church.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Pete Johnston.
Surviving other than her husband is her son, Billy Allen Barnes and wife Charlene of Collettsville; daughter, Shelia Renee Deiotte and husband Gerry of California; two sisters, Judy Harris and husband Travis of Wilkesboro, and Mary “Tootie” Fleming and husband Ray of Granite Falls; four grandchildren, Brittany, Megan, Paul and Erin; and one great-grandchild, Evelyn.
A celebration of Mrs. Barnes’ life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with the Rev. Lonnie Lackey and the Rev. Dewey Bristol officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Daniel, Greg, Mark, Tim, “Bo” and Rick.

Mrs. Hazel Triplett Aldridge, 82, of Boone died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service in Boone.
Viola Moore Bass, 85, of Morganton died Saturday, March 1, 2014. Mrs. Bass was born July 13, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late James Moore and Marie Hartoung Moore. She was a loving mother and devoted to her family.
Viola is survived by her children, James Bass and wife Gail of Lenoir, Thomas Bass and wife Kelly of Morganton, Joseph Bass and wife Pam of Lenoir, and Nancy Bass Hart and husband Elzie of Morganton; a brother, James Moore and wife Lillian of Fredericksburg, Va.; grandchildren, Dustin J. Bass and wife Crystal of Conover, Colt Bass and wife Tatia of Lenior, Blake Bass of Asheville, Joseph Bass of Lenoir, Justin Bass and wife Chelsee of Lenior, Marc Parham and wife Erin of Mooresville, Joshua S. Parham of Morganto,; Jonathan S. Parham and spouse Dennis of Charlotte, Kelly Hart Pope and husband Jason of Morganton, and Craig F. Hart and wife Elizabeth of Rock Hill; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Bass, and a sister, June Bass.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 3, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Ed Stephenson officiating. A family committal of the urn will take place at 3 p.m., Tuesday at Palm Tree United Methodist Church in Vale. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home. Mary Ella Reid Bolick, 88, left this earthly home on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. She was born in Dudley Shoals on Oct. 5, 1925, in Caldwell County, the baby girl to the late William James Reid and Amanda Ida Austin Reid. Other family members loving her in life and preceding her in death were her husband of 44 years, Carley Curtis Bolick; four brothers, Nathan Hoyle, William Dewey, Harrison Fuller and Bingham Reid; as well as an infant sister, Johnsie Reid.
She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna Bolick Lail and husband Benny of Granite Falls, and Maria Bolick Martinez and husband Tony of Stow, Ohio; four granddaughters, Vicki Lail Stevens and husband Matt, Amy Lail Fitzgerald and husband Jon, Amanda Martinez and Ashley Martinez; and one beloved great-grandson, Ben Michael Fitzgerald.
Due to health issues, Mary spent the last six years at Lenoir Healthcare Center. The Family wishes to express our thanks to this wonderful facility and our deepest appreciation to the staff of Hall 100, who provided such loving care to our mother / grandmother on her good days as well as the bad.
The Family of Mrs. Bolick will receive friends Sunday, March 2, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. The Funeral service will be Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Morris and the Rev. Don Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rhoyd Scott, 80, of Taylorsville passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. A service will be held at 3 p.m. today, with the Rev. James Millsaps and the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Burial will take place at Taylorsville City Cemetery following the service.

Ruth Price Laws, 80, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at her home. Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Caldwell County, Mrs. Laws was a daughter of the late Daniel Boone Price and Mrs. Bessie Rea Summerow Price of Lenoir. She was the wife of the late Johnny Alfred Laws.
Mrs. Laws was a very active member of Walking By Faith Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and Church Secretary. She was a very devoted Christian lady who was well respected in her community.
She will always be remembered for her crafts, including crochet, woodworking and especially her wonderful cakes.
Other than her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Alfred Laws; a daughter, Margaret Ann Laws Shatley; and a brother, Joseph Price.
Surviving other than her mother are six children, Steven Laws and wife Linda of Morganton, Linda Barrier and husband Charles of Morganton, David Laws of Lenoir, Brenda Laws of Lenoir, Glenda Laws of Vale and Peggy Henson of Lenoir. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Price of Lenoir; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mrs. Laws’ life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walking By Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Marvin Ford and Pastor Richard Shew officiating. Burial will follow in the Celia Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Shatley, John Ross Shatley, Don Shatley, Jr., Rocky Penley, Charles Barrier and Charlie Anthony. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Laws and Terry Earp.
