Kenneth Floyd

Kenneth Zeb Floyd, 74, of Lenoir died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Lenoir Health Care. He was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Lincoln County to the late Dewey Floyd and Maybell Hudson Floyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Floyd and Bobby Floyd.

Mr. Floyd was retired from Century Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Floyd Jr. and Michael Wayne Floyd, both of Hickory; three daughters, Lisa Ann Potter and husband Rick, and Cindy Louise Setzer and husband Timothy, both of Hickory, and Brenda Kaye Miller and husband Alan of Lenoir; two brothers, Gene Floyd and wife Shirley of Hickory, and Loyd Floyd and wife Shirley of Shelby; two sisters, Ruby Young of Vale and Pat Floyd of Hickory; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Raymond Spann.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sylvia Woodruff

Sylvia Anders Woodruff, 69, of Morganton died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at the Burke Palliative Care Center. Born in Caldwell County on Dec. 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Beuys Anders and Bessie Spicer Anders. Sylvia was a homemaker; she was a great baker and flower gardener. She loved animals and the outdoors. Along with her first husband, Billy, she owned and operated Billy Dee’s Barbeque as well as other food establishments.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Sylvia is survived by her husband, Dan Byrd of the home; sons, Jeffrey Alan Woodruff and his wife, Shawn, of Lenoir, and Joel L. Woodruff and his wife, April, of Granite Falls; a stepson, Kevin Byrd and his wife, Spring, of Lenoir; a stepdaughter, Colleen Byrd of Conover; grandchildren, Cullen L. Woodruff, Gabriel A. Woodruff, and Peyton Byrd; and siblings, Barbara Watson and her husband, Ross “Pete”, David Anders and his wife, Elaine, and Nancy Brooks and her husband, Johnny, all of Lenoir.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Dee Woodruff, and a brother, Gerald Sonny Anders.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Kevin Matheson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.

Bruce Warren

Bruce Allen Warren, 68, of Blowing Rock Boulvard, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Outer Banks Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Caldwell County to the late Rufus and Lena Turnmire Warren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Gwen Warren Jr., Harry Warren, Charles Warren and Douglas Warren.

Mr. Warren was a retired product engineer for Broyhill Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Tina Maria Warren of the home; son, Chris S. Warren and wife Donna of Lenoir; daughter, Leslie A. Warren of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Becky Paige and husband Chad; mother of his children, Gail Warren; brothers, James Warren and wife Coleen of Mount Holly, Tom Warren and wife Shirley of Stanley, and Daniel Warren and wife Debbie of Hickory; sister, Sandra Laws and husband Bob of Hickory; three grandchildren, Kyndell Warren, Kaylee Paige and Kaden Paige.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date.

Vance Miller

Vance Albert Miller, 96, of Powell Road, Lenoir, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. He was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Caldwell County to the late Albert Sidney Johnston Miller and Henrietta “Etta” Anderson Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Eleanor E. Miller, Irene M. Warlick, Mary Boone M. Lackey and Sue M. Dobbin; and two brothers, Perkins D. Miller and Howard H. Miller.

Mr. Miller was co-owner and partner of Miller Brothers Ready Mix Concrete Company. He was a United States World War II Army Veteran in the European Theater and was in the invasion of Normandy. He was a member of the Optimist Club and was an avid golfer. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir for 75 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Kesler Miller of the home; one daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Miller Spillman and husband Chris of Boone; two grandchildren, Christopher Vance Spillman and William Joseph Spillman; brother-in-law, Charles Dobbin of Lenoir; sisters-in-law, Frances Miller and Cecelia Miller, both of Lenoir; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lenoir conducted by Dr. David B. Smith. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
