Obituaries for Aug. 13, 2013
Charles Phillip Mast, 50, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born in Caldwell County on Jan. 3, 1963, to Bernice Ward Mast and the late Claude David Mast.
Charles worked at Thomasville Furniture and was known for his good work ethics. His friends in the community and workplace had the highest regards for him. He was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church.
Other than his father he was preceded in death by his brother, David Carrol Mast; aunts, Mary Moore Mast and Lilly Moore Mast; and uncles, Frank Mast and Jim Mast.
In addition to his mother he is survived by brothers, Claude M. Mast and wife Tammy of Patterson, Christopher B. Mast of Morganton, and Edward Mast and wife Kay of Patterson; niece, Britney Mast; nephews, Nicholas and Thomas Mast; aunts, Katie Watson and Paulette Greene; uncle, Howard Ward; and several cousins.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Yadkin Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Livingston officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Claude Mast, Chris Mast, Ed Mast, Thomas Mast, Jeff Hamby, and Greg Elrod.

Joseph D. Gibbons, 35, of Conover, formerly of Lenoir, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
James Lee Lowe, 78, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. He was born in Swain County on April 19, 1935, to the late William Lowe and Gladys Franklin Lowe. He was married to Betty Price Lowe of the home for more than 57 years.
Mr. Lowe retired from Broyhill Industries as a maintenance manager after more than 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a founding member of the former Lenoir Rescue Squad. Mr. Lowe enjoyed playing golf and working in his garden.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Pope, Helen Matheson, and Juanita Lowe.
Other than his wife he is survived by his daughters, Pam Lowe, and Cindy McGee and husband Rick; son Kenny Lowe and Kim Hollifield and Bradley Adamson; sisters, Barbara Price and husband Paul, Darlene Bentley and husband David, Clara Anderson and husband Gene, and Marla Greer and husband Larry; and grandchildren, Kayla McGee, Ethan McGee, and Gabriel Lowe.
A celebration of Mr. Lowe’s life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Heavenly Hope Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Benny Greene, the Rev. Bobby Pritchard and the Rev. Ed Warren officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors.
Pallbearers will be: Glen Dean, Jeff Ingle, Bruce Coffey, Dale McJunkin Jr., Ralph Guy, and Kenneth Bentley.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, from 6 to 7 p.m.
