Joyce Harrison Harris
Joyce Harrison Harris, 72, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at her home. Born Nov. 7, 1940, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Blaine and Odell Harrison. Ms. Harris was a member of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member. She was a co-founder of the Hallelujah Supper Club in Newton.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, G.S. Harris, and two brothers, Johnny Harrison and the Rev. Joe Harrison.
She is survived by one daughter, Katrina Benton and husband Len of Granite Falls; three sons, Joel Harris and wife Penny of Bethlehem, Jason Harris and wife Dana of Hiddenite, Andy Berndt and wife Kim of Mount Holly; one sister, Mavis Woods and husband June of Sawmills; one sister-in-law, Vickie Harrison of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church on Saturday, June 8, from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Randy Smith, the Rev. Don Ingle and the Rev. Gordon West officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Lillie Carver Collier, 94, of Valdese died Wednesday June 5, 2013. A funeral service will be Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. A private graveside service follows. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Frances Warren Kirby, 80, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born June 3, 1933, in Caldwell County, Mrs. Kirby was a daughter of the late Walter Wade and Martha Jane Campbell Warren and was the wife of Mr. J.B. Kirby of the home.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, W.W. Warren Jr., Thomas S. Warren, and Joseph L. Warren; one sister, Barbara Ann Warren; and one stepson, Keith Kirby.
Mrs. Kirby was a retired seamstress with over 33 years at Grand Manor Furniture. She was a member of the First Advent Christian Church in Hickory. Mrs. Kirby loved to sew and loved to work her crossword puzzles. Her family says she baked the best homemade bread of anyone. Working in her flowers and garden gave her so much pleasure, and then canning the vegetables for all to enjoy. On most Saturday nights, J.B. and Frances would enjoy going dancing.
Other than her husband, J.B., she is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Huntley Rogers and husband Nicholous of Orangeburg, S.C.; her son, Michael Huntley and wife Cindy Seehorn of Lenoir; one stepson, Jeff Kirby of Lenoir; one sister, Katherine Warren Seehorn of Lilburn, Ga.; three grandchildren, Monte Campbell Jones, Mikaela Huntley Johnson and husband Dustin, and Cameron Huntley and wife Devan; one step-granddaughter, Ashley LeAnn Kirby; and two great-grandchildren, Georgia Lynn Johnson and Addison Claire Jones.
A celebration of Mrs. Kirby’s life will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Advent Christian Church in Hickory with the Rev. Dennis Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in the Nazareth Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Lenoir.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Helen Bivins Russell, 94, of Raleigh passed away peacefully on June 4, 2013, at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh.
She was born in Hickory on Sept. 29, 1918, to Dorse and Mattie Starnes Bivins. She graduated from Hickory High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College before starting her career with Shuford Mills’ payroll department in Hickory and Granite Falls, where she retired in 1984.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Granite Falls until moving in 1997 to Raleigh, where she became a member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband of 56 years, John Allison Russell. She was also preceded in death by her brother, R.D. Bivins Jr. of Martinsville, Va., and by her five sisters, Estelle Dubin of Badin, Hazel Leinbach of Winston-Salem, Carrie Bryson of Hickory, Willie Mae Huffman of Hickory, and Mary Beam of Hickory.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Roger B. Russell and wife Beth of Raleigh, and by her four devoted grandchildren, Jennifer Lane Russell and partner Brandon Russell of Washington, D.C., Allison Russell Davis and husband Ben of New York, N.Y., Drew Russell and wife Elizabeth Anne of Charlotte, and Taylor Russell of New York, N.Y.
A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Granite Falls at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Oaks of Whitaker Glen and of Brighton Gardens of Raleigh for their dedication and compassionate care.
