Raymond Lee Beaver, 62, of Lenoir passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Paul Lonzo Beaver and Louise Prestwood Beaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Beaver; two brothers, Jerry Beaver and Billy Beaver; and one sister, Delores Turnmire.
Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Ray Lee Beaver (Holly Renee Beaver) and Terry Ray Beaver (Amber Elizabeth Beaver), and one daughter, Jeanette Susan Beaver, all of Lenoir; one brother, Paul Beaver (Teresa); and four sisters, Betty Shew (Bill), Linda Moore (Johnny), Carolyn Lee (Ray) and Kathy Messegee (Jake).
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Elijah Bradshaw, Salem Beaver, Traceton Beaver, Madalyn Beaver and Eva Renee Beaver.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Poarch officiating. Burial will follow at Hartley Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, from 6–8 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Elijah Bradshaw, Daniel Faw, Michael Beaver, Jackie Beaver, Victor Rodriquez, Trent Sanders and Shannon Gragg.

Lucas Andrew Smith, 16, of Lenoir passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.

Charles Julies Bumgarner, 80, of Granite Falls passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Born March 28, 1933, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Jeff Bumgarner and Pearl Cannon Bumgarner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and a grandson.
Charles served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Hudson. He was also a member of Clover Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hamby Bumgarner of the home; a son, Jeff Bumgarner and his wife, Mary, of Granite Falls; a brother, Roger Bumgarner of Connelly Springs; a sister, Sarah Lail of Hudson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Clover Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Childers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services from 3 until 4 p.m. at the church.

Dorothy “Dottie” M. Clap Martin, 80, of Wilkesboro Boulevard, Lenoir, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Lenoir Health Care. She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Caldwell County to the late Albert and Mildred Suddreth Clap.
Mrs. Martin was retired from the furniture industry.
Survivors include her husband, Colon “Junior” Lee Martin of the home; two sons, Steve Borders and wife Shirley of Lenoir, and Allen Borders of North Carolina; one sister, June Eller of Lenoir; one grandchild, Melinda Summerlin and husband Randy; two great-grandchildren, Emilee Summerlin and Dalton Summerlin; stepmother, Agnes Clap; and half-sister, Betty Laws.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at1 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joe Angle. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Conway Minton, 78, of Ferguson passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Minton was born in Wilkes County to the late William Robert Minton and Angeline Katie Hawkins Minton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chelsie and Kenneth Minton, and one great-grandchild, Caden Chester.
Mr. Minton was retired from Bernhardt Furniture after 40 years of service and attended Gospel Truth Ministries.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Juanita Minton; his daughters, Libby Chester and husband Harvey of Wilkes County, and Connie Renea Grose and husband Bennett Lee Grose of Ferguson; his brother, David Carroll Minton and wife Phyllis; his sisters, Pauline White and husband James, Beulah Hamby, Louise Prestwood and husband Sam, and Hallie Greene; his grandchildren, Derrick Chester, Summer Combs, Tyler Chester and Conner Grose; and his great-grandchildren, Nate Chester, Roxie Chester, Caleb Chester, Lacie Minton, Eleos Chester, Elijah Chester and Ethan Chester.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Mike Minton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Richard Eugene Phillips, 55, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Gettysburg, Pa., on July 3, 1958, to Reece Phillips and the late Virginia Faye Barrett. He was married to Patricia Pennell Phillips of the residence for 33 years.
Richard worked at Thomasville Furniture and was a member of East Flat Baptist Church for over 30 years. He loved collecting cigarette lighters, fishing and playing golf.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Phillips, Gertie Phillips, Beatrice Barrett, and Pless Barrett.
Other than his wife and father he is survived by his son, Scott Phillips; brothers, Eldridge Phillips and Randy Phillips; niece, Dawn McCoy; and nephews, Cody Phillips, John Phillips, Douglas Sigmon, and Frankie Speagle.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at East Flat Baptist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 3 p.m. with Mike Gragg and Brooks Kirby officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 at the church.
