Obituary for Dec. 26, 2013
James Finley Joines, 86, of N.C. 268, Lenoir, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. He was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Caldwell County to the late Alonzo “Buck” Mott and Nora Mae Dula Joines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth I. Joines and John G. Joines.
Mr. Joines was a truck driver and was of the Methodist faith. He was also a World War II Merchant Marine and later an Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Violet McNeil Joines of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Jennifer Bumgarner and husband Deron of Newton, and Mrs. Janet Howard and husband Lee of Lewisville; one sister, Mrs. Mary Nell Long and husband Kenneth of Monroe; and grandchildren, Joshua Howard, Lydia Howard, Emily Bumgarner and Diana Bumgarner.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Randall Cauble. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pat McNeil, Steve McNeil, Tyler McNeil, Frank Shuford, Oscar Wingler and Paul Hall.
