Lawrence Palmer Jr.
Lawrence N. Palmer Jr., 85, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on Nov. 7, 1928 in Lenoir, he was the son of the late Lawrence N. and Faye Crisp Palmer Sr.
Mr. Palmer was a member of Living Water Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence R. “Larry” Palmer (Nancy), and Baxter G. Palmer (Linda); daughter Theresa “Terrie” Palmer Herman; brother Michael H. Palmer; sisters, Marjorie O’Neill, Carole Palmer, and Edith Laws; grandchildren, Jeanna Palmer Smith (Stan), Amy Palmer, Michele Herman, Matthew Palmer (Penny), and Joshua Palmer; nine great-grandchildren; and his canine companion, Sydney. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Greer Palmer; brother, William C. Palmer; and sister, Shirley Rader.
Services will be private with the family.

Patricia Hays Dye, 69, of Lenoir died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Caldwell UNC Health Care. Services will be held at a later date. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Stephen Mickeal Miller, 66, of Lenoir, formerly of Patterson, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Ida Edna Hawkins, 78, died Dec. 9, 2013, in Charlottesville, Va. She was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Lenoir to Mildred Pipes Hawkins and Avery James Hawkins. Edna was a former employee of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, Va. She had a love for mathematics, travel, her family, and God. She tutored many students throughout the years and enjoyed playing bridge. She graduated from Wake Forest University and completed graduate work in mathematics at the University of Virginia. Her parents, her sister Lucille Hawkins Roberts of Lenoir, her sister Carolyn Hawkins Davis of Warsaw, Va., and her brother Charles Hawkins of St. Leonard, Md., precede her in death. She is survived by her sister Mary Hawkins Miller of Lenoir, and her sister Nina Hawkins Cavin of St. Leonard, Md., as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service and interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 28, 2013, at the University of Virginia Columbarium in Charlottesville, Va. Wilburn “Gaston” Coffey, 77, of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Autumn Care in Drexel.
