Wilburn Coffey

Wilburn “Gaston” Coffey, 77, of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Autumn Care in Drexel.

Born Sept. 9, 1936, in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Alfred and Violet Crump Coffey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Grayling Coffey; one brother, Roger Coffey; and one sister, Lura Jean Barnette.

Mr. Coffey was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie “Sally” Coffey of the home; one son, Talmadge Coffey of Icard; one daughter Kelly Testerman and husband Tracy of Hudson; one sister, Linda Yount and husband Robert of Granite Falls; one step-daughter, Olivia Anderson of Hickory; one stepson, Jeff Hamby of Granite Falls; one grandchild, Jessica Shook of Hudson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at Bass-Smith Granite.

Maude Youngs

Maude Lou Youngs, 95, of Lenoir passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.

Born Feb. 19, 1918, in Wilkes County, Maude was a daughter of the late Ralph and Susann Walsh Triplett. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Miami, Fla. She will be remembered as a loving mother, who loved her Lord. Maude was the former owner of the Star Restaurant and enjoyed Ballroom dancing. Maude was also a doll maker and had made over 10,000 dolls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three husbands, Claude Hamby, Kelly Suddreth, and Courtney “Dave” Youngs; two daughters, Helen Hamby Setzer and Genevia Suddreth; a son, Kelly Eddie Suddreth; and a brother, Junior Triplett.

Survivors include her son Cliff Suddreth and wife Edie of Lenoir; three daughters, Billie Hamby Hall of Hickory, Carolyn Littlejohn of Lenoir, and May Ann Phillips and husband Douglas of Hickory; two brothers, J.C. Triplett and wife Jolene of Patterson, and Alvin Triplett of Hudson; she is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.

A celebration of Maude’s life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Dr. Cliff Black and the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Interment will be on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 12 p.m. at the Western Carolina VA Cemetery in Black Mountain.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Gateway Nursing Home and to Maude’s caregivers, Edie Suddreth, Sandra Smith and Sara Beard.

U.S. Bolick

U.S. Bolick, 86, of Cajah’s Mountain died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Wake Forest University Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Caldwell County to the late Gilbert G. and Louida Decker Bolick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kimberly Denise Bolick, four brothers and seven sisters.

Mr. Bolick was retired from Broyhill Furniture Industries and was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was also a United States Army Veteran. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Davis Bolick of the home; one son, Todd Bolick and wife Kelly of Lenoir; one daughter, Linda Moffett and husband John of Harkers Island; grandchildren, Leah Browning and husband Scott, Tara Trivette and husband Jesse, Hombre´ Gragg and wife Jessique, Erica Bolick, Julia Bolick and Joseph Bolick; great-grandchildren, Cobey and Chris Gragg and Temperance Trivette; one brother, Lester Bolick and wife Virginia of Lenoir; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church conducted by Dr. David B. Roberts. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mr. Bolick’s Adult Men’s Sunday School class.

Stephen Miller

Stephen Mickeal Miller, 67, of Walt Arney Road, Lenoir, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the residence. He was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Caldwell County to the late Johnny Reese and Lillie Bradshaw Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Miller and Larry Miller.

Mr. Miller was retired from Kincaid Furniture and was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working on old cars, especially his pick-up truck. He was a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Land Miller of the home; two sons, Stephen Mickeal Miller II and Brandon Shawn Miller, both of Lenoir; one daughter, Amber Miller of the home; one brother, Roy Miller of Georgia; one sister, Brenda Boughman and husband Don of Lenoir; and grandchildren, Scott Presnell, Trey Miller and Dalton Miller.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, open hours from 2 to 9 p.m. at the residence, 2206 Walt Arney Road, Lenoir. All other services will be private.
