John Hight Moore, beloved husband, father, Paw-Paw and friend, passed away at his residence Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer. “Hight” was born Jan. 4, 1936, to the late Roy Hight Moore and Mae Haas Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Moore Lackey.
Hight was a dedicated member of Hartland Baptist Church for 51 years, where he served as a deacon, a trustee, a Sunday School teacher, and director, an RA leader and a member of the Brotherhood. He served in the N.C. National Guard for 10 years. Hight was retired from the auto parts business. His passions were his family and gardening.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Brenda Oliver Moore. He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Moore Kent (Mike); his sons, John Hight Moore II (Amy) and David Moore (Laurie); his grandsons, Heath Kent, Dylan Hight Moore and Steele Moore; his granddaughters, Jade Kent, Jessie Moore, Austen Moore and Lily Anne Moore; brother-in-law, Ron Oliver; and sister-in-law, Diane Oliver.
Pallbearers are Heath Kent, Dylan Hight Moore, Steele Moore, Brian Oliver, Jason Oliver, Ron Oliver, Jerry Lackey and Ryan Drakeford. Hartland Baptist Church deacons and Hight’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hartland Baptist Church, 3730 Hartland Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 12 noon at Hartland Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Smith, Dr. David Smith and the Rev. Todd Braswell officiating.
The family would like to express their thanks to nurse Michelle Pezzi for her loving care of Hight during this time, and to the staff of Caldwell Hospice.

Rosemary Irene Bassin, 78, of Hudson died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. All services will be private. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Diane W. Greene, 58, of Hickory died Tuesday, Dec.31, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Ella Mae Franklin Dishman, 75, of Ransom Cardwell Lane, Lenoir, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care–Hudson. She was born May 13, 1938, in Caldwell County to the late William C. and Ola Messer Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Dishman Sr.; three brothers, Raymond Franklin, Carroll Franklin and Johnny Franklin; and two sisters, Jeanette Mikeal and Gladys Paige.
Mrs. Dishman was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Joe Dishman and wife Jackie of Morganton; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Winders of Lenoir, Odeana Powell and husband Kenneth of Granite Falls, and Donna Watson and husband Terry of Baton; two grandchildren, Tamara Scruggs and Susan Shell; and five great-grandchildren, Logan Coffey, Malaysia Moody, Emma Moody, Kendal Murphy and Madelyn Murphy.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. David McNeil.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
