Thomas Warren

Thomas Warren, 69, of Northwood Drive, Lenoir, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at the residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1944, in Dallas County, Union Town, Ala., to the late William B. and Lucy Lee Washington Warren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel Lee Warren; one sister, Ethel Lee Sanders; and nephews, Charles Warren Jr. and William Sanders.

Mr. Warren was a letter carrier for United States Post Office for 45 years. He was a member of First Church of God and served on the trustee board numerous years. He was also a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Patterson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Julius Devin Patterson of Lenoir; two daughters, Ericka “Tootie” Warren and Christopher Biddle of the home, and Melita Mosley and husband Dexter of Lenoir; two brothers, Curtis Warren, and Charles Warren and wife, both of Boston; sisters, Catherine Warren of Boston and Lizzie Crosby of Lenoir; grandchildren, Shatericka Warren, Heaven Burgess, Tamaurion Warren, Dexter Mosley Jr., Joquan and Ayryon Isbell, Honesty Howell, Kailan Audrey and Teante Felder; special nephew, Samuel Sanders; and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. at First Church of God conducted by the Rev. Jerome Pearson. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers and flower bearers will be classmates and friends.

Stephen Henson

Stephen Harrison Henson, 71, of Connelly Springs died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Brian Center-Viewmont. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary Powell

Mary Louise Powell, 101, of Pennwood Street, Lenoir, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Lenoir Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Caldwell County to the late Charles John and Carrie Sherrill Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Nelson Sherrill Powell and sister, Alice Powell Beach.

Ms. Powell was retired from Belk’s Department Store. She was a life-long member of Lower Creek Baptist Church and Mary Martha Sunday School class.

Survivors include nephew, Neil Douglas Beach and wife Joie of Lenoir; great-nephews, Neil Douglas Beach Jr. and David Townsend Beach, both of Blowing Rock; sister in-law, Louise Fox Powell; and nieces, Cynthia Powell, Joan Hasty and husband Steve, Suzanne Crummer and husband Charlie and their children, all of Hickory.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Lower Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bert Blackburn and Rev. Joe Parker.

Kevin Patterson

Kevin Lee Patterson, 57, of Granite Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at his residence. He was born July 8, 1956, in Calhoun, Ga. He was the son of the late Bobby Lee and Flonnie Seabolt Patterson.

He was employed by Astro Dye Works/Meridian Ind. For 40 years.

He is preceded in death by both parents and one granddaughter, Karter-Nichole Fayann Rich.

He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Patterson of the home; two daughters, Katrina and husband Tyson Wagonerl and Brianna Pattersonl all of Granite Falls; one son, Joseph Rich of Calhoun, Ga.; one brother, Kenneth and wife Paula Patterson of Calhoun, Ga.; and one sister, Karen and husband Larry Goforth of Calhoun, Ga.

Mr. Patterson was a member of New Vision Baptist Fellowship Church.

The family will receive friends at Mackie Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral will be Sunday, Jan.y 12, 2014, at New Vision Baptist Fellowship with the body lying in state from 2 to 2:30 p.m. The service will be at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ashley Crouse and the Rev. Carl Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers include: Tony Young, Robert Patton, Gary Tibbals, Terrell Harris, Tim Ward and Eric Bailey. Honorary Pallbears are T. Gene Davis, Robert McArthur, John Mattox and Donnie Jones.

Phyllis Ann Billings, 69, of Valdese died Jan. 8, 2014, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

R.A. Annas, 86, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the N.C. State Veterans Home in Black Mountain. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Bass-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory in Hickory.

Larry Sanders

Larry Ray Sanders, 63, of Creekway Drive, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Caldwell UNC Health Care. No services are planned at this time. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Alaine Watson

Alaine Triplett Watson, 82, of Hopedale Drive, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Caldwell UNC Health Care. She was born March 7, 1931, in Anna Walt, W.Va., to the late Clyde and Edna Wheeler Triplett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Triplett; granddaughter, Edna Annette Pennell; and grandson, Michael Dean Pennell.

Ms. Watson was retired from Broyhill Furniture and was a member of Mount Ephraim Baptist Church in Triplett.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Dean Watson of the home; two daughters, Rosa Lee Greer of Hudson and Susann Barbar of Lenoir; two sisters, Linda Stewart and husband Jimmy, and Clidia Griffies, both of Lenor; grandchildren, Mark and Jonathan Pennell, Donna Laws, Angela Franklin and Justin Greer; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jimmie Norwood.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
