Robert “Bob” Eugene Ashley, 67, of North Wilkesboro died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be held Sunday, March 17, at 3:30 at the John A. Walker Center with the the Rev. David Wellborn and the Rev. Bobby Pritchard officiating. Private graveside services will be held. The family will receive at the John A. Walker Center from 1 until 3 prior to the service.
Mr. Ashley was born in Wilkes County, Jan. 8, 1946, to Chancie Eugene and Ruth Huffman Ashley. He was the president of Holly Mountain Enterprises. After serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968 and then embarking on a 27-year career with Lowe’s Foods, Mr. Ashley went into business for himself. He invested heavily in the area and has not looked back. Through his Holly Mountain Enterprises, he owns 14 convenience stores, the Holly Mountain IGA in North Wilkesboro and 13 restaurants, including Coffee House and Waffle Shops in seven counties and the Woodhaven Family Restaurant in North Wilkesboro and West Jefferson. Mr. Ashley, who has approximately 400 employees, including his three sons, was happy being his own boss. He was very involved in giving back to his home community, but preferred to work behind the scenes.
There is a plaque on Mr. Ashley’s desk that reads: “Many of life’s failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
Mr. Ashley is survived by his wife, Janice Greer Ashley of the home; three sons, Scott Ashley and wife Amy of North Wilkesboro, Jonathan Ashley and wife Debbie of North Wilkesboro, Mike Culler of Lenoir; one sister, Kay Ashley Call and husband Harold of Wilkesboro; one brother, Mike Ashley and wife Karenelle of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Madison Ashley, Maison Ashley, Tyler Ashley, and Jordan Smith; and nieces and nephews, Marty Call, Allen Call, and Brittnee Rogers.

Kimberly “Kim” Medford Watson, 34, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013. She was born in Buncombe County on May 8, 1978, to Jerry Medford and the late Marguerite Holcombe Medford. She was married to Aaron Watson of the residence.
Other than her husband and father she is survived by her sisters and their husbands, Karen and William Harshbarger of Oxford, and Pamela and Charles Adkins of Valdese; a niece, Catherine Hensley; and nephews, Ian Harshbarger and William Harshbarger IV.
A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at Worship Point Baptist Church on Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Lane Hamby and Pastor Benny Greene officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Bob Watson, Ben Watson, Bill Harshbarger, Chris Dellinger, Mike Seymour, and Joshua Martin.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 prior to the service.

Dennis George Martin, 64, of Lenoir passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte following a brief illness.
Mr. Martin was born in Cleveland County to Mr. George F. Martin of Shelby and the late Kathryn Queen Martin. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1967 and was a star quarterback. He also attended Gardner-Webb College and Central Piedmont Community College. He loved spending time with his family and his only grandson, Lawson, and was an avid golfer. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam, and was a Sales Representative for Ross Windows of Morganton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Suddreth Martin of the home; his daughter, Jessica Lynn-Lee Martin Wilson and husband Charles Andrew of Sawmills, and their son, Lawson Dewey Wilson; his brothers, Marcus Martin and wife Susie, and Roger Martin and wife Susan, both of Shelby; two nieces, Jennifer and Katie Martin; and two nephews, Matthew and Benjamin Martin.
The family will have an informal visitation Monday, March 18, at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Lillian Faye Broyhill, 52, of Hudson died Tuesday March 12, 2013, at her residence. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Valdese Family Funeral Care has the honor of serving the family of Mr. Melton.
Troy Harding, 67, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Harding was born in Madison County on July 31, 1945, to Mabel Fender Harding and the late Carmon Harding. He was married to Mary Alice Harding of the residence.
Mr. Harding was retired from the furniture industry and loved his family and going to the flea market.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Marla Sandidge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Humphrey, and son, John Harding; brother, Dallas Harding; sisters, Arlene Crofford, Rosalee Bogart, and Donna May Briggs; stepdaughters, Carmen Calloway, and Jana Nelson; stepson, Charles Sandidge; grandchildren, Jerry Mark Humphrey, Justin Clark, Codi Nelson, Dustin Sandridge, Kristina Shiflett, and Kass Nelson.
A celebration of Mr. Harding’s life will be held on Sunday, March 17, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service at 2 with Brothers Hank Slyzeski and Jeff Ambrose officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be: Codi Nelson, Kass Nelson, Dustin Sandidge, D.J. Harding, Justin Clark, and Derek Triplett.
