Gerald Secreast

Gerald Daniel Secreast, age 79, of Hampton Place, Lenoir, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 9, 1933 in Cumberland County to the late Aaron Len and Mary Eva Oxford Secreast. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Truel Len Secreast; and one sister, Oleta Gertrude Secreast.

Mr. Secreast was a retired plant manager in the furniture industry. He was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and on the Building Ground Committee.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Woods Secreast of the home; son, Ronald Daniel Secreast and wife Yolanda of Lenoir; daughters, Debra Moore and Nancy Garnes and husband Ronnie, both of Lenoir and Jacqueline Roberts and husband Randy of Granite Falls; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Whitnel First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Stuart White. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Randy Roberts, Ronnie Garnes, Kenneth Coffey, Tanner Philyaw, Joey Garnes and Max Woods.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Gunnar Williams, Matthew Arney and Deacons of Whitnel First Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Whitnel First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2999, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Penny Nix (with photo)

Penny Nix passed away at Caldwell Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 63.

Penny is predeceased by her parents, Bill and Wanda Dew of Wisconsin.

Penny is survived by her loving ex-spouses Richard Nix and Brian Hasmuk.

Penny is lovingly remembered by her four children and seven grandchildren; Elisa Wysong of Bel Air, Md, Monique Hasmuk of Gallatin, Tenn., Jared Hasmuk of Athens, Ga., Tyler Nix of Granite Falls, NC, Annie Wysong, Katie Wysong, Evie Wysong, Allie Wysong, Vinnie Wysong, Abbie Wysong, and Tommie Wysong of Bel Air, Md.

Penny was born in Fond Du Lac, Wis. on September 10, 1949. She graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. She was employed by the Caldwell County school system as a teacher’s assistant and bus driver and held numerous positions at Redwood Park.

Penny enjoyed cleaning, exercising, singing, and taking care of her animals. She was actively involved in the Caldwell County Humane Society and Pet Partners.

The visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls, 9 Lakeside Avenue, Granite Falls, NC on Wednesday March 27, 2013 from 1 until 2p.m.

The service of remembrance will be held at First United Methodist Church following the visitation at 2pm, with Pastor Howard Fleming officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Caldwell County Humane Society at PO Box 1991, Lenoir NC 28645 or Pet Partners Network Inc. at PO Box 2746, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Jean Gragg

Jean Isbell Gragg, 89, of Lenoir, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 24, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Gragg was born in Birmingham, Ala. to the late Lonzo Isbell and Nancy Smith Isbell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Hobert B. Gragg and her daughter, Brenda Jean Gragg.  She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and served on the food committee.  

She leaves behind her son, Rick Gragg of Lenoir to cherish her memory.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend John Jernigan officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home prior to the service on Saturday at 12 p.m.  

The men of Central Baptist Church will serve at pallbearers.

The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC  28645.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Lee, age 58, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on September 7, 1954 to the late Joel Dean Lee and Pauline Duncan Lee. He was married to Sandra Cline Lee of the residence. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Lee.

Other than his wife, he is survived by his son, Joel Lee and wife, Fern; daughter, Jennifer Lee; sister, Brenda Lee Taylor; and brothers, Garry Lee and Bob Lee.

A celebration of Mr. Lee’s life will be held Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Mark Clark, Robert Reid, Austin Reid, Steven Dale,

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. prior to the service.

Cora Boyce

Cora “Charlotte” Boyce, age 84, of Daisy Place, Collettsville, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. She was born February 12, 1929 in Caldwell County to the late Howard and Mary Michaux Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Terry Boyce; and one sister, Blondell Ferguson.

Mrs. Boyce was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and was a member of Little Rock AME Church in Collettsville.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Boyce, Sr. of the home; three daughters, Mary Boyce Hood and husband Clarence of South Carolina, Deboriah Boyce Pickett and husband Stephen and Charlotte Ineze Boyce, both of Lenoir; one son, James E. Boyce, Jr. and wife Virginia of Collettsville; one brother, Roger Moore of Morganton; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Little Rock AME Methodist Church in Collettsville conducted by Rev. Hebert Carter and Rev. Jasper Hemphill. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Daisy Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Boyce’s family members.
