Norman Rainwater

Norman Frances Rainwater, 84, of Hickory went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born Oct. 4, 1928, in Lenoir, he was the son of the late Frank L. Rainwater and Beatrice Wall Rainwater. He retired as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, after 22 years of service, where he served in the Korean conflict. He received the Wright Brothers Award in 1986. Norman was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church; loved flying his homemade plane and was a member of the Lenoir Aviation Club.

Norman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anneliese Schneider Rainwater; son, Roland Rainwater and wife Carol; daughter, Mary Werstler; brother-in-law, Guenther Schneider and wife Brenda; nephew, Raydale Benfield; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Luise Taylor of Erie, Pa. He also has family in Germany.

A memorial service, with full military rites, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Dan Duke officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Yates Roberts

Yates Richard Roberts, formerly of Lenoir, died Feb. 11, 2013.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whitnel Cemetery.

Evans Funeral Service and Crematory of Lenoir is serving the Roberts family.

Bill Kemp

Bill Kemp, 95, of Hudson passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1918, in Caldwell County, Mr. Kemp was a son of the late John and Rose McRary Kemp and his late Foster Parents, Dolph and Lora Alley. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Flo Henderson Kemp, to whom he was married 76 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Others preceding him in death are a grandson, Joey Bryant, and son-in-law Frank Yates; brothers; two infant brothers; John Kemp, J. R. Hubbard, Gordon Kemp, Henry Kemp, Belvin Baldwin, Lem and Clem Alley and sister, Christine Harshaw.

Mr. Kemp was a member of First Baptist Church in Hudson, was a truck driver by trade and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat Engineer serving in the Normandy Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Hudson and the American Legion Post 392 of Hudson.

He is survived by three daughters, Irene Yates of Hickory, Lois Rader and husband Jimmy of Hudson, and Joyce Bryant and husband Gary of Hudson; three grandchildren, Billy Yates, Tracy Rader Fleming and husband Donnie, and Jamie Rader and wife Mary Kate; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, MacKenzie Fleming, Meredith Rader, Ethan Rader, Kaitlyn Rader, Dalton McGee, Andrew Yates and wife Amber; and one great-great-grandson, Josiah Yates.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 2 until 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir.

A Graveside service will follow in the Sardis Cemetery in Hudson with the Rev. Jim Hamby officiating and will conclude with Military Honors by members of the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be members of the North Carolina National Guard.
