Randy Arnold

Randy K. “Bruno” Arnold, 54, of Lenoir, formerly of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, from the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Arnold was a native of Carter County, Tenn., and the son of the late Stacey Ray and Dorothy White Arnold.

Randy worked at Snap-on Tools as a mill operator. He was a member of Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church and attended Lenoir First Free Will Baptist Church in Lenoir. He loved fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, being with his wife, his family, and his dogs, Trouble and Callie.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Berry Hatton-Arnold, Lenoir; a son, Brian Arnold and wife Celia, Elizabethton, Tenn.; three stepchildren, Shannon Hatton of Lenoir, Aaron Hatton of Lenoir, and Wendy Hatton of Morganton; six step-grandchildren, Mikey Wilson, Heather Wilson, Kaleigh Hatton, Smith Hatton, Charlie Hatton and Cooper Hatton; five step-great-grandchildren, Logan Wilson, Jolie Wilson, McKayla Wilson, Jacob Edminson and Hailey Edminson; a brother, James Arnold of Tennessee; and his best friends, Stanley Honeycutt and Darrell Birchfield.

The funeral service for Mr. Randy K. “Bruno” Arnold will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, Tenn. with the Rev. Jerry Emmert, the Rev. Jack Moses, and the Rev. Carl Grindstaff, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Wednesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, in the Hurley Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Darrell Birchfield, Aaron Hatton, Shannon Hatton, Johnny Hyder, Jonathan Grindstaff and James Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow employees of Snap-On Tools. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 12:00 PM on Thursday, to go in procession.

Christopher Oakley

Christopher Allen Oakley, 51 of Lenoir passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at his home.

Born Oct. 5, 1962, in Caldwell County, he was the son of Geneva Rhodes of Lenoir and the late Charles Allen Oakley. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles W. Oakley and Pauline McGee Oakley, and his maternal grandfather, Glenn McCall.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Lenoir.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his stepfather, Jake H. Rhodes Jr.; his daughter, Kristen Correll and husband Michael of Lenoir; his son, Wesley Oakley and wife Ciara of Lenoir; sister, Cheryl Oakley Bolt of Lenoir; one grandchild, Bailey Elizabeth Correll; and his maternal grandmother, Dorothy McCall of Lenoir.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at Central Baptist Church.

Jimmy Andrews

Jimmy Granford Fritts Andrews, 71, went home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1942, the son of the late Dolphus and Edna Fritts and adopted son of the late Otha G. and Mildred Potter Andrews.

He was a member of the North Laurel Baptist Church, Valdese, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was a former supervisor of Fairfield Chair in Lenoir and later retired as a supervisor from Southern Furniture in Conover.

He is survived by the love of his life of 51 years, Tressie Hall Andrews of the home; his son, Bobby D. and wife Teresa Andrews of Granite Falls; his daughter, Sherry J. Andrews Shytle and husband David of Hudson; two brothers, Lonnie Dickens and Paul Fritts; four sisters, Ruth Harold, Elaine Cornett, Linda Delhanty, and Betty Dably; five grandchildren, Tyler Andrews, Ashley Aldridge, Eric Andrews, Derek Andrews, and Brittany Holmes; and six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ashtin, Savannah, Collin, Brianna and Madison.

In addition of his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends at Mackie Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Mackie Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Sizemore and the Rev. Nicky Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.

William Sauer

William Laurence Sauer, 74, of Lenoir died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Caldwell UNC Health Care. He was born April 6, 1939, in Rochester, N.Y., to the late Wilhelm and Helen Edna Renk Sauer.

Mr. Sauer was a Special Ed Teacher at Monroe BOCES #1 for 25 years. He graduated from Canisius College and took graduate studies at Nazareth College and SUNY at Brockport. He was a lifelong member of Psi Beta Phi Fraternity. He was past president of Walworth Republican Club and board member of the Walworth Assessment Review Board for 25 years. He also taught CCD Religious Ed to 12th-grade students. He was a candidate for the Justice of the Peace and charter member of the Walworth Lions Club. He was also a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Adeline Bausch Sauer of the home; and a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Ballesty and husband David of Blowing Rock.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. The Celebrant will be Father Julio Dominguez.

A reception and lunch will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Deloris Brown

Deloris Bowman, 62, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. She was born Jan. 12, 1952, daughter of the late Earnest and Ruby Ann Burgess.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

She is survived by her loving husband, Danny of the home; one son, Lewis and wife Jean Burgess of Concord; two daughters, Valerie and husband Charles Chapman of Taylorsville, and Alyssa Bowman of Granite Falls; one sister, Carol Ann Ferrell of Mount Pleasant; and three grandchildren, Allison Burgess, Luke Burgess, and Taylor Chapman.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Home. The service will follow in the chapel at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Don Ingle officiating. Burial will be private.

Shirley Chandler

Shirley Story Chandler, 66, of Westbrook Street NW, Lenoir, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 17, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Shirley was born Aug. 27, 1947, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Olin and Faye Rector Story. She was a retired assistant director of the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Chandler of the home; one brother, Gene Story and wife Jeanne of Hendersonville; one sister, Judy Phillips of Lenoir; one nephew, Robert W. Phillips III of Lenoir; and one niece, Sherry Gorman and husband Todd of Hickory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-niece, Lexus Phillips.

Funeral services for Shirley Story Chandler will be conducted Friday afternoon, Feb. 21, 2014, at 2 o'clock at Laurel Fork Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 1 until 2 o'clock. Burial will follow in Laurel Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir. The family will also receive friends Friday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock at Laurel Fork Baptist Church prior to the service.
