Fern Triplett

Fern Triplett, 76, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. She was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Caldwell County, daughter of the late Ransom Cannon and Lillian Henderson Cannon.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two children, Darryl Triplett and Angela Triplett; one brother, Harold Cannon; one sister, Johnsie Triplett.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Wilson and husband Dwayne of Connelly Springs; one son, Mark Russell Triplett of Granite Falls; two granddaughters, Melea Wilson and Jake Wright of Connelly Springs, and Stephanie Triplett of Granite Falls; great-grandsons, Hayden Wright and Brody Wright; one sister, Rosie Lail of Hudson; and one brother, Robert Cannon of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Howell officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Paul Coffey

Paul Eugene Coffey, 65, of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at his residence. Born Feb. 1, 1949, in Big Stone Gap, Va., he was a son of the late Jesse and Jane Townsend Coffey and the husband of Brenda Logan Coffey of the home.

Mr. Coffey served 15 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and later retired from the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard and loved the outdoors and his horses.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Coffey.

Surviving other than his wife are his daughter, Becky Coffey Hunter; his three stepsons, Michael Coffey and wife Cheryl, James Coffey and wife Kim, and Troy Coffey and wife Sue; two sisters, Gladys Estes and Nellie Coffey; four brothers, Benson Coffey, James Coffey, Roy Coffey, and George Coffey; eight grandchildren, Amanda Shutt, Anthony Coffey, Josh Coffey, Paul Coffey, Sam Coffey, Ashley Coffey, Chris Coffey, and Tyler Coffey; and three great-grandchildren, Marshall Coffey, Mikey Coffey and Xander Shutt.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Coffey Residence, 3560 Lonesome Dove Lane, Granite Falls, with the Rev. Rodney Raby officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir.

Carroll Kirby

Carroll Eugene Kirby, 82, of Cedar Valley Road, Hudson, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born July 29, 1931, in Caldwell County to the late George L. and Esther Kirby.

Mr. Kirby was a retired teacher at Valmead Elementary School and was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Flowers Kirby of the home; one son, Keith Kirby and wife Bethany of Lenoir; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Kirby and husband Richard Tolbert of Lenoir; one brother, Steward Kirby and wife Sylvia of Hudson; and two grandchildren, Elaine Tolbert and Isaac Tolbert.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hudson United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Timothy Brittain. Interment will follow at Hickman Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Ellis Allen

Ellis Allen Jr., went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at his home. He was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church in Happy Valley. Ellis was born on July 5, 1946, in Richlands, Va., to the late Ellis Allen Sr. and Lona Bales Allen. Ellis served honorably in the United States Navy from 1963-1971 and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation with two stars, after serving three tours in Vietnam. Ellis retired from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, where he was employed from 1990-2007.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Harrison Allen of the home; his daughter, Petina Allen Hunt, and grandson, Keagan Ray Hunt of Valdosta, Ga.; son, Wesley Michael Allen and daughter Jessica Lyn Allen, both of Lenoir; sister, Cornelia Collette and husband John of Newport News, Va.; in-laws, Hazel McGraw and husband Ronnie, and Louise Griffith, all of Cleveland, Ohio; and seven nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Yadkin Baptist Church in Happy Valley, officiated by Robert Livingston and Sherrill German.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
