Jacqueline Martin

Jacqueline Linda Martin, 70, of North Wilkesboro died Monday, March 31, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. April 3, 2014, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. John A. Speaks, the Rev. Richard Carlton and the Rev. James Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens the following morning. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Ms. Martin was born July 4, 1943, in Wilkes County to Ralph William and Louella Barber Martin. She graduated from Lincoln Heights School, Winston-Salem State University and the University of Virginia. She was a seventh-grade teacher in The Danville School System in Virginia.

She is survived by three brothers, Nelson Martin and wife Cathy, and Reggie Martin and wife Jametta, all of North Wilkesboro, and Douglas Martin and wife Pam of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Yount

Charles Ivo Yount, 96, of Granite Falls passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at his residence.

Born Dec. 4, 1917, in Caldwell County he was the son of the late John R. Yount and Mamie Keller Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lilly Roberts Yount; an infant son; two sisters, Ethyl and Edna Yount; and two brothers, Homer and Lloyd (Noah) Yount.

Mr. Yount proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Century Furniture Company and Winn-Dixie.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Lane Yount of the home; daughter, Jane White and husband Steve; grandchildren, Sean White Cory White and Stephanie Smallin; son, Charles R. Yount and wife Pam; grandchildren, Danielle Yount, Sydney Yount, and Ryanna Yount; one brother, Wade R. Yount and wife Jane; two sisters, Helen Y. Bumgarner and Ilene Y. Haas; special friends, Mark and Machelle Kirby, David and Diane Grose.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014, 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom McDonald Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church prior to the service.

Mary Teague

Mary Jane Catherine Brookshire Teague, 87, of Taylorsville died Monday, March 31, 2014.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 2:30-3:45 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. The service will follow at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Albert Chester

Albert Finley Chester, 78, of Lenoir died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Lenoir HealthCare Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Alice Harrison

Alice Bell Spears Harrison, 74, of Lenoir passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 21, 1940, in Wise County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Gilmer James and Gladys Alice Wade Spears. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Spears.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by her husband, Johnie Richard Harrison of the home; one son, Johnie Richard Harrison Jr. of Lenoir; and two sisters, Betty Sue Munsey of Portland, Ore., and Mossie Martha Churchill of Lenoir.

At Mrs. Harrison’s request any services will be private.
