Wanda Lou Greene, 79, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir. Born March 29, 1935, in Watauga County, Mrs. Greene was a daughter of the late Roscoe D. and Hazel Church Greene and wife of the late Rayvon Greene, who passed away in 2003.
Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Felix Greene, and three brothers, Van, Hayes and Louis Greene.
Mrs. Greene was a faithful member of Mount Paran Baptist Church in the Stony Fork Community of Watauga County. She was known as a hard worker, having owned and operated the Crossroads Restaurant in Lenoir from 1981 until 2005.
She is survived by her two sons, Danny and Roger Greene, both of Lenoir; her siblings, the Rev. Jimmy Greene and wife Nelda, Bill Greene and wife Charlotte, Buford Greene and wife Dot, Stella Gragg and husband Gene, Anna Robbins and husband Bill, Nina Reed and husband Glen, Betty Curtis and husband Clarence, Judy Braswell and husband Sam, Phyllis Hamby and husband Danny, Martha Smith and husband Homer, Patsy Greene and husband Bill, and Jeffery Greene and wife Josie; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mrs. Greene’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Brian Gragg officiating. A Graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Watauga County.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir.

Jerry Lee Austin, 70, of Lenoir, beloved husband, father, Pop, brother and friend, died unexpectedly Monday, July 1, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born May 28, 1944, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Garland Avery Austin and Myrtle Deal Austin. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Gail Boyles.
A 1962 graduate of St. Stephens High School, Jerry attended Lenoir-Rhyne University and Catawba Valley Technical Institute, where here earned an Associate's Degree in Design. He was a furniture designer for Stanley and Broyhill Furniture companies early in his career. He later co-owned two businesses, The Wooden Lantern and 3 J's and Art. After he retired from Lowe's, Jerry enjoyed making jelly, baking cookies, piddling in his wood-working shop and spending time with his family. He was a unique, fun-loving guy with a goofy sense of humor who loved to entertain people, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is "the best thing that ever happened to him," his wife of 26 years, Carol Beach Austin. He is also survived by three children, Chad Donovan Austin of Hickory, Amy Holloway Moore and husband John of Lenoir, and Anna Holloway of Lenoir; six grandchildren, Jordyn Roberts, Ben Roberts, Dylan Moore, Jessie Moore, Austen Moore and Donovan Austin; a sister, Sandra Ann Lyon; a brother, Kevin Dwain Austin; sister-in-laws Anne Greene, Becky Pope and Cindy Beach; brother-in-laws David Beach, Billy Pope and Scott Henderson; and several nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 4 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Lenoir. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at a "mingling" in the church fellowship hall from 2 to 4 p.m.

Grady Spencer Bentley, 72, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his residence. Born Feb. 2, 1942, in Ashe County, Mr. Bentley was a son of the late Philmore and Nancy Greer Bentley.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Bentley; two brothers, Dale and Jess Bentley; and two sisters, Mattie Whitener and Lessie Crump.
A wonderful father and friend, Mr. Bentley had worked for Thomasville Furniture for 22 years.
He is survived by two daughters, Teresa “Charlie” Bentley and Jackie Eller; one son, Randy Bentley; two brothers, Bill Bentley and Howard Bentley; two sisters, Nadine Wakefield and Martha Watson; six grandchildren, Heather Everhart, Chris Bentley, Brian Bentley, Trevor Bentley, Tiffany Oliver, Chance Crump; three great-grandchildren, Jesse Bentley, Robert Everhart IV, Malaki Bentley; and his special friend and companion, Teresa Hale. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Mr. Bentley will take place Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Lenoir Moose Lodge on Hwy 90 from 4 until 7 p.m.

Violet Hazel Frazier Reaves, 60, of Roby Martin Road, Lenoir, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born Nov. 30, 1953, in Scott County, Virginia, to the late James and Mary Hood Frazier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Reaves Sr.; grandsons, Rogelio Rodrigues and Jacob B. Scroggins; two brothers, Roy and Lonnie Frazier; and four sisters, Jacqueline Fillman, Erma Roberts, Katie Register and Betty S. Frazier.
Mrs. Reaves was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby E. Reaves of Florida, Jonathan E. Reaves and wife Barbara of Lenoir, and Roy Reaves Jr. and wife Angela of Lewisburg; four daughters, Peggy L. Phillips and husband Rusty of Florida, Rita A. Scroggins of Georgia, Tammy S. Greene and husband Bobby, and Kristie K. Laws and husband Tommy, both of Lenoir; two brothers, Bobby J. Frazier and wife Gloria of Lenoir, and W. Carson Frazier and wife Bonnie of Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Gospel Truth Ministries conducted by the Rev. Mike Minton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Kay Cash Nelms, 72, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice. She was born in Gaston County on January 27, 1942, to the late Author V. Cash and Cora Hembree Cash. She was married to George B. Nelms of the residence for more than 41 years.
Mrs. Nelms loved the Lord and her family. She began playing the piano when she was 8 years old and started playing in church when she was 9. Mrs. Nelms was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Crafters at the Lenoir Senior Center. She was always keeping herself busy with crafts.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Bingham and husband, Charlie of the home; Ginger Foster of Folsom, Calif.; grandchildren, Tabitha Calo, Heather Calo, Alicia Bingham, Heather Eller; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Nelms will be held at Grandview Park Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, 2014, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Hoyle, Pastor Edward Reese, and Pastor Doug McClain officiating.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 6:30 until 8.
