Bessie Elizabeth Moore Dula
Bessie Elizabeth Moore Dula, 80, of 523 Willow St. NW, Lenoir, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, after an extended illness. Mrs. Dula was born July 10, 1932, in Caldwell County, the daughter of the late Shelly and Ruth Patterson Moore. She was a lifelong member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, former Chairperson of the youth missionary, member of the Mass Choir, and member of the Usher Board. Mrs. Dula retired from Harper Furniture Company after 13 years of service in the pre-assembly department. She was also a domestic worker and a day care worker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Dula Sr.; daughter, Donna Dula; son, Johnny Dula; brothers, Robert Moore, Frank Moore, William “Lucky Boy” Thomas; sisters, Mary Honer, Geneva Tilley; and a daughter-in-law, Marlies Dula. Mrs. Dula is by her survived by sons, James “June Bug” Dula Jr. of Hickory, Steven Dula and Kelvin Dula, both of Lenoir, and Roddy Dula (Dawn) of Fayetteville; daughter, Faith and husband Elder Jesse Banner of Lenoir; sister, the Rev. Burnette Burgess of Morganton; sisters-in-law, Catherine and husband Bill Patterson, and Norma Moore, all of Lenoir, Irma Dula of Charlotte, and Mary Bell Moore of Taylorsville; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, 2 p.m. at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Lenoir, with the Rev. James Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. at the church. Private burial will follow. Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir is serving the Dula Family. Ronald Naquam "Popo" Bowean, 34, of Knoxville passed away with peace, surrounded by love on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He died from complications related to pneumonia after living with dignity and grace with cerebral palsy.
Ronald was a graduate of Fort Sanders Educational Development Center. He also attended the United Cerebral Palsy School Age Programs in Queens, N.Y. Ronald was an associate member of both the Christian Center of Knoxville and Grace Bible Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Laura Norwood Bowean; father, Walter Ronald Patterson; and aunt, Charlene Bowean. He is survived by his mother Eather Mae Bowean, twin sister Lolly Bowean, cousin/brothers Demetrios, Yusef and Julius Bowean.

Jessica Leigh Duncan
Jessica Leigh Duncan, 35, of Connelly Springs passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Valdese General Hospital after a long battle with diabetes. Born March 7, 1978, in Catawba County, Jessica was a daughter of Gene and Sandy Duncan of Granite Falls.
Jessica was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church and a 1996 graduate of South Caldwell High School.
Other than her parents, she is survived by her two children, Robert “R.B.” Byerly IV and Ben Byerly, both of Hudson; one brother, Wesley Duncan and wife Crystal of Jonesville; Fiancée, Michael Ireland of Connelly Springs; and nephew, Samuel Duncan, and twin nieces, Sarah and Ellie Duncan, all of Jonesville.
A celebration of Jessica’s life will be held 3 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Calvary Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13, 2013, from 1:30 until 3 p.m., prior to the service at Calvary Advent Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be Men of Calvary Advent Christian Church.

Linda Miller Moretz, 52, of Baton Church Road, Granite Falls, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at Catawba Valley Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 29, 1960, in Ashe County to Florence Mash Miller of Glendale Springs and the late Gaither Bryant Miller. Throughout her illness and cancer treatments, she maintained an unwavering faith in the Lord whom she loved and trusted wholeheartedly. Even in great pain, her concern was for others.
Prior to her illness, she was a most valued and flexible worker with the Caldwell County School Cafeterias, serving where she was needed most on any particular day. Linda was a faithful member of Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a loving Christian, daughter, wife, mother, sister and aunt.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include her beloved husband, Thomas Arnold Moretz Jr. of the home; daughter, Sylvia Miller King and husband Matthew Steven King of Hudson; brothers, Donnie Miller and wife Rosie of Glendale Springs, Ronnie Miller and wife Sally of Moravian Falls; two sisters, Brenda Roten and husband Ricky, and Pam Potter and husband Kerry, both of Glendale Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Funeral services to honor her life will be held Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church conducted by Rev. Keith Gilliam. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
