Misty Canterbury

Misty J. Canterbury, 34, of Morganton died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 29, 1978, in Caldwell County to Linda Ann McLean of Lenoir and the late Richard H. Canterbury.

Survivors in addition to her mother include two daughters, Brooklyn Bivens of Newton and Malorie-Kate Smith of Hickory, and two sisters, Melissa Canterbury Jones of Providence, Ky., and Jennifer Canterbury of Hudson.

A Celebration of Life service was held Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Dry Ponds Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Rick Crouse and the Rev. Sam Craven. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Jerome Harper

Jerome Montrell Harper, 54, of 339 Woodland Place NW, Lenoir, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at home.

Mr. Harper was born March 27, 1959, in Caldwell County, the son of the late Irene Phyllis Harper Howell. He was a member of Bibleway Church #10 where he was a Trustee, senior usher and pastoral aid. Mr. Harper was retired from the U.S. Army as a supply sergeant. He was a member of Pride of Caldwell Masonic Lodge #713, member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Ruch Chapter #571, past commandor and chief of the I.H. Clayborn Consistory #365, VFW Post #5382, Harper Witherspoon American Legion #231, and a member of the Shriners Gizeh Temple #162.

Mr. Harper attended Caldwell Community College and was a transporter for Meals on Wheels in Burke and Caldwell counties.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Harper. Mr. Harper is survived by his son, June Andrew Harper of Charlotte; his aunts, Doretha Jean Johnson of Kissimmee, Fla., and Nettie Marie Wiggins of Orlando, Fla.; uncles, Warren Harper and Barry Harper both of Lenoir; and nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Harpers Chapel United Methodist Church, Lenoir, with the Elder Charles Dula and the Rev. Charlie Rivens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:55 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Harpertown Community Cemetery. Ebony Funeral Services of Lenoir is serving the Harper Family. The DAV Chapter 6 Military Honor Guard will perform military honors. The Harper Witherspoon American Legion #231 and the DAV Chapter 6 will serve as pallbearers.

James Coffey

James Floyd Coffey,  76, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Lee County, Va., to the late Wheeler and Polly Townsend Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Frazier Coffey, and a grandson, Travis James Staton.

Mr. Coffey was retired from Bernhardt Furniture Company, where he was a Night Watchman.

Survivors include his daughters, Mary Coffey Miller and husband John of Granite Falls, and Rose Coffey Staton of Gamewell; four sisters, Mary Rainey, Julie Orange, Nancy Adams and Shirley Lawson, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory conducted by the Rev. Rick Miller. Interment will follow at Frank Townsend Cemetery off Grandin Road.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, N.C. 28645.

Floyd Earp

Floyd Marshall Earp, 27, of Parker Court, Lenoir, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013.  He was born Aug. 21, 1985, in Caldwell County to Darlene Nichols and the late Rex Marshall Earp.

Mr. Earp was a self-employed construction worker.

Survivors in addition to his mother include one brother, Matthew Earp of Lenoir; his maternal grandfather, Edward Wendell Nichols of Lenoir; and one half-sister, Maria Earp Bickens of Wilkes County.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
