Mollie Brown

Mollie Lorene Blevins Brown, 89, of Crumpler died on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her home. Mrs. Brown was born on Sept. 28, 1923, in Ashe County to the late William A. and Sallie Dixon Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgle Brown, two brothers, and two half-sisters. Mrs. Brown was a member of Senter Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, flowers, reading, and gardening.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Elder James McNeill, Elder Bobby Absher, and Elder Ed Bowman. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Brown is survived by a daughter, Velma Jones and husband Jack of Crumpler; son Robert Brown and wife Blanche of West Jefferson; son Lacy Brown and wife Carolyn of Lenoir; son Howard "H.D." Brown of Crumpler; son Wayne Brown of Crumpler; one granddaughter; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Paul Severt Sr.

Paul Hugh Severt Sr., 76, of Newton passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice.

Born May 26, 1936, in Smyth County, Va., to the late Avery Hampton Severt Sr. and Roxey Bernice McGlamery Severt. Hugh was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Reformed Church in Newton, where he worshiped and served the Lord. Hugh was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, gardener, sports enthusiast, card player, golfer, and mentor to many. His true joys in life were spending time with his loving wife of 21 years, Penny, his family, and his faithful companion of 12 years, his dog Daisy.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Severt, Charles Severt, Bill Severt, Dick Severt, Willard Severt, Fred “Peanut” Severt, sisters, Edna Severt Wilson, Irene Severt, Mable Severt Blevins, Virginia Severt Tate.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Penny Laney Severt; sons, Paul Hugh Severt Jr. of Valdese, and David Eric Little of Maiden; daughters, Donna Severt Starnes of Morganton, and Diana Severt Boddorf of Cary; brothers, Robert Severt, Avery Severt Jr., and James Severt; sisters, Hazel Severt Rowland, and Betty Severt Rouse; grandchildren, Elizabeth Moretz, Emily Ludlam, Kirstie Starnes, Andrew Severt, Jonah Severt, Braxton Boddorf, and Bracy Boddorf; and great-grandchildren, Hayden Moretz, Adam Ibrahim, and Brooklynn Ludlam.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Newton. The Rev. John Bigelow and Pastor Hank Kirkland will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Reformed Church. Pallbearers will be Ricky Benson, Kevin Caldwell, Allan Arrowood, Danny Stillwell, Floyd Recil Laney Jr., Dennis Smith, William Wilson and Jay Jackson.
