Betty Williams Setzer, 83, of Morganton, NC passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Grace Heights. Born in Burke County, NC on January 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John Herndon Williams and Bertie Whitmire Williams. Betty retired from Drexel Heritage after 44 years and was a member of Hartland Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Clark and her husband, Philip, of Morganton; a sister, Peggy Martin and her husband, Don, of Stoney Point, NC; a brother, Frank S. Williams of Murrell’s Inlet, SC; and several beloved nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Setzer; sisters, Mamie Suddreth and Marguerette Curtis; and brothers, Clarence Williams and Alfred Williams.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at Hartland Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker and the Rev. Allen Boliek officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Chanie M. Witherspoon was called home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2013.
She was born in Boone, North Carolina on May 28, 1931.
Chanie worked in the retail business for JC Penney and Gold Circle, and attended Shoreline Community Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many. Cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends were some of her favorite pastimes. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and new great-grandchild. Chanie was quick with a smile and a kind word. Her loss will be felt by many.
Chanie was preceded in death by husband, Joe; grandson, Brian; daughter, Sheri Moore; and son, Keith. She is survived by long-time special friend, Don Powell; sons, Ric (Karen) and Mark (Jasmin); daughter-in-law, Dottie Witherspoon; grandchildren, Andy Jones, Heather (David) Meeks, Mark Jr., Michael; and great-grandson, Davey.
Sundays, green beans and the clematis vine will not be the same without her – but we will find comfort knowing that she is with family that went too soon, in the arms of the Lord.

Burl Wilson Herman, 90, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.
Born in Caldwell County on February 6, 1923, he was the son of the late James Gaither Herman and Estelle Nevada Greene Herman.
Mr. Herman served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Norfolk, Va., and was a member of Hartland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann B. Herman; a son, Travis Wilson Herman and two sisters, Fern Penley and Jonelle Rollins.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Janice Ellen Herman Hall of Lenoir; two grandsons; several great-grandchildren and several cousins. He also leaves behind his special friends and caregivers, Dean and Linda Hall, of Lenoir.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Hartland Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Allen Lee Gragg, affectionately known as “Paw”, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care – Kirkwood, following a brief illness.
Born March 13, 1950 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Homer Gragg and Lois Storie Gragg.
Paw worked for Bemis Manufacturing as a set-up technician.
He always had a smile of encouragement and a soothing “pat” on the back for everyone who came in contact with. All that knew him will remember that he was the most loving, caring and giving man around. He was an avid Nascar fan and a faithful Carolina Tarheel fan. He especially enjoyed Dale Earnhardt Sr. & Jr.
Paw enjoyed the summer and loved taking trips to the beach and just loved life.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny Storie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Bryant Gragg, of the home; one son, Jodie Gragg and wife Angela of Pensacola, Florida; step-son, Todd Laws and wife Lorie; step-daughter, Tina Bolick and husband Gus; two brothers, Randy Storie and Eddie Gragg; four grandchildren, Taylor “Bug” Fredericks, Morgan Laws, Madison Laws, and Evie Gragg; and two step-grandchildren, Reva Bolick and Gregory Bolick, III, all of Lenoir.
Services honoring Mr. Gragg will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Pendry’s Chapel with Dr. Stuart White officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
