Ray Walker

Ray Walker, 90, of Plantation Drive, Lenoir died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the residence. He was born October 12, 1922 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence and Ester Blankenship Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Hoffman Walker; one brother, Willard Walker; and sisters Sybil Shaw and Olivia ‘Lib’ Story.
Mr. Walker was a retired general manager for Drexel Heritage Furniture. He was a member of Central Advent Christian Church and also attended Deerfield United Methodist Church in Boone. He graduated from Lenoir High School and N.C. State University with a degree in industrial engineering. He was also a United States World War II Navy Seabees veteran as an electrical engineer. Ray was “A Pure Gentleman.” He was a member of the Watauga Community Band. In 1940, he played in the World’s Fair with the Lenoir High School Band under the direction of Captain Harper.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel and will be conducted by Pastor Ed Neal and the Rev. Doug Sterrett. Interment will follow at Belleview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mickey Story, Barry Story, Reggie Walker, David Hoffman, Joseph Hoffman and Johnny Watson.

LaVerne Chambers

LaVerne Pearson Chambers, 85, of Wexford Village, Lenoir died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born December 26, 1926 in Glenwood, Georgia to the late Weldon C. and Eunice Jeanette M. Morrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Marshall Pearson; and a brother, Roderick Lee Morrison.
Mrs. Chambers was a retired secretary and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir.
Survivors include her husband, Jack R. Chambers of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Marsha Pearson Thomas and husband John of Boone; three grandchildren, J.T. Thomas, Jeb Thomas and Justin Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, John Thurman Thomas IV and Conley Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lenoir conducted by Dr. David B. Smith. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be J.T. Thomas, Jeb Thomas, Justin Thomas, Walt Howell, Brent Kincaid, Wilbern Brown, Ken Barlowe and Tom Broach.

Tim Miller

Mr. Timothy “Tim” Duane Miller, 55, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Hospice of Catawba Valley. Tim was born in Catawba County on August 4, 1957 to Anita Harris Miller and the late Alfred Ray Miller. He was married to Delorese Annas Miller of the residence.
Tim was a 1975 graduate of Granite Falls High School and a member of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, finance committee member and cemetery committee member. He retired in 2006 as western branch manager of the North Carolina Emergency Management. After retirement, Tim began working as an independent consultant, naming his company Blue Ridge Preparedness Group. He was recognized nationally for his knowledge of emergency services and provided consulting services in many states across the nation.  
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Robert Duane Miller; a daughter, Susan Miller Bumgarner and husband, Clint; three brothers and their wives, Steve and Diane Miller; Larry and Sandra Miller; Doug and Regenia Miller; grandchildren Gracie Norton and Avery Bumgarner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2102 with Pastor Don Ingle, Pastor Ron Winkler and Tim Rogers officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Charlotte Fire Department.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of North Carolina Emergency Management, law enforcement, and emergency medical personnel.
The family will receive friends at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church on Friday, December 14, 2012 from 5 until 7 p.m.

Dennis Leroy Dorrier, 54, of Hickory died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Frye Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m., until 2 p.m., prior to the service Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Bass-Smith Granite. Bass-Smith Granite is serving the family of Dennis Leroy Dorrier.

Shirley Miller

Shirley Beshears Miller, 74, of Lenoir died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Evans Funeral Servie & Crematory of Lenoir.
