Diana Tye

Diana Ellen Laymon Tye, 58, of Lenoir passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at her home. Born Feb. 20, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Ada Blake Laymon and the wife of Dr. John G. Tye of the home.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Harriett Yuellig.

Diana was a loving wife and mother and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir. She received her bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and was a registered nurse. Diana also served as an ICU Nurse at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and UNC Medical Center at Chapel Hill.

She recently received her associate’s degree in photography, and the arts were an important part of her life. She loved animals, especially horses, and was an equestrian. She was a past member of the Lenoir Service League and was very proud that she was able to serve as president of the Davenport School PTO while her children were students there.

Other than her husband, Diana is survived by her three daughters, Jesslyn Blake Tye of San Diego, Calif., Meredith Whitney Tye of Lenoir, and Regan MacKenzie Tye of Lenoir; and her sister, Dixie Blake Pursley and husband Bob of Springboro, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, from 12:30 until 2:30 following the morning worship service in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir.

A private graveside service will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Fred Perkins

Fred "Bub" M. Perkins, 85, of Morganton died Oct. 2, 2013, at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Ebony Funeral Services of Morganton.

Irene Buckner

Irene W. Buckner, 81, of Beach Road, Hudson, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley. She was born July 10, 1932, in Yancey County to the late Joseph M. and Wilma Hyman Willis.

Mrs. Buckner was retired from Shuford Mills after 30 years of service. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she was involved in missions, bus ministry and donated to the area food bank.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Gene Buckner and wife Mary of Hickory, and Keith Buckner and wife Lisa of Sawmills; one daughter, Donna Christie and husband David of Hudson; one brother, Verlin Willis and wife Susie of Bethlehem; one sister, Janet Anderson of Hudson; six grandchildren, Anthony Coffey, Josh Coffey, Angel Elmore, Patricia Wright, Noah Christie and Kayla Avery; and great-grandchildren, Samuel Elmore, Madison Elmore, Marshall Coffey, Mikey Coffey and Sophie Wright.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 1292 Cape Hickory Road in Hickory conducted by the Rev. Gene Gouge and the Rev. Chris Decker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Peppeard, Ray Hammett, Keith Parlier, Anthony Coffey, Noah Christie and Lee Little.

Dorothy White

Dorothy Valeria Cox White, 82, of Spaniel Lane, Lenoir, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Valley Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Caldwell County to the late Brady T. and Erma Triplett Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Earl White.

Mrs. White was retired from Carolina Comfort and was a member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeraldean Bentley of Lenoir, Carolyn Burroughs of Monroe, and Erma Holman and husband David of Statesville; two brothers, Dewitt Cox and James Cox, both of Deep Gap; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Neal Walker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Harley Ray Bentley Jr., Dylan Bentley, Lee Dula, Cody Burroughs, David Holman Jr. and Ben Kress.
