Keith Bradford

Keith Wesley Bradford, 59, of Lenoir passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Bradford was born in Caldwell County to the late Earl E. Bradford Sr. and Virginia Deal Bradford.

Keith is survived by his wife, Grace Hart Bradford of the home; his daughter, Lindsay Bradford of the home; his son, Wesley Bradford of Durham; his brothers, Eddie Bradford and wife Janice, and Roger Bradford and wife Carolyn, both of Hickory; his sister, Anne B. Edwards and husband Terry of Lenoir; his sister-in-law, Karen Worsham and husband Woody of Hickory.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Lane officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the graveside service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Austin, Jeff Smith, Jim Pinson, Ricky Arnold, Sam Birckhead and Scott Malicot.  Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Ellis, Jimmy Stone, Adam Rhyne and Sam Wright.

The family requests that memorials be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 4948 Burns Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630.

Ray Stephenson

Ray Douglas Stephenson, 69, of Draco Road, Lenoir, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. He was born on Feb. 18, 1943, in Johnston County to the late Lonnie Alonzo and Leona Brady Stephenson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jane Bryant, and his good friend Larry Looper, who died on Oct. 31, 2012.

Ray graduated from Clayton High School. He was the owner and operator of Unique Services in Wilmington, from which he retired. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pilkenton Sapp; a brother, James Stephenson and wife Mary; four daughters, Vonda Mason, Cindy Baxendale, Julie Stephenson and Brittany Male; three sons-in-law, David Mason, James Baxendale and Tommy Male; and grandchildren, including Zachary and Caitlin Mason, Declan and Daphne Baxendale, and Thomas Ray Male.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Granite Falls on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Howard Fleming officiating. Viewing will be held two hours prior to the service. Burial will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers are James Bryant, Derek Richardson, Alvin Williams, Joey Lutz, Sam Erby and Steve Downey.

Honorary pallbearers are Louis Cannon, Robert Stewart, David Richardson and Herbert Miller.

Charles Greer

Charles Billy Greer, 76, of Union Grove Road, Lenoir, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. He was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Grayson County, Va., to the late Russ V. and Agnes Dolinger Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randall Greer and Sidney Hermon Greer.

Mr. Greer was a retired engineer for the federal government and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He was also a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Tolliver Greer of the home; sons, Randall Wayne Greer and wife Gloria, and Charles Michael Greer and wife Melody, both of Lenoir; brothers, Paul Greer of Chilhowie, Va., Carroll Greer of Lenoir and Tony Greer of Granite Falls; sisters, Anne Pennington of Damascus, Va., Jean McCall Greer and Judy Miller, both of Lenoir, and Carolyn Alexander of Damascus, Va., Jackie Baldwin of Hudson, and Marilyn Taylor of Bristol, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Tyler Wayne Greer and Keaton Riley Greer; and four step-grandchildren, Dianna Stevens, Gregory Michael Greer, Timothy Matthew Cramer and Austin Bradley Cramer; a special uncle, Ezra “Slick” Greer of Damascus, Va.; and a special aunt, Jean Greer of Damascus, Va.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sam Craven. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Cramer, Ronnie Hayes, Mike Hayes, Ray Miller, David Spake and Jonathan Woods.

Meagan Freeman

Meagan Leigh Freeman, 24, of Morganton died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Born Aug. 31, 1988, in Randolph County, she was a daughter of Earl Jackson “Jack” Freeman and Judy Lynn Smith Freeman of Morganton. Meagan was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Lenoir and was an enthusiastic student of the Japanese and Korean languages. She was devoted to her family and to her church. Her family gives sincere thanks to the staff at Table Rock Family Medicine.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her siblings, Angel Freeman Digh and husband Jon, Ryan Freeman and wife Amy, Kristie Schauman, Pat Schauman and wife Tamara, and Sean Freeman, all of Morganton, and Katherine Elizabeth Freeman of Chapel Hill; grandfather, Harold “Paw Paw” Williams of Drexel; grandmother, Nina Smith of Lenoir; aunts and uncles, Kermit and Anita Fox, Betty and Earl Sturic, Johnnie Williams, Wes and Janice Freeman, Marcie and Gary Saunders, and Libby and Keith Norton; great aunts, Nancy Merrill, Diane Smith, Katherine Petrie, Roberta Hatley and Carolyn Freeman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Meagan was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Earl and Josephine Freeman, and her maternal grandfather, Carl Smith.

Richard Miller

Richard Todd Miller went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013. He was born on June 10, 1966. He attended Shiloh Baptist in Burgaw and Central Baptist in Lenoir.  He is survived by his wife, Carol Miller; and children, Leah Boham, Jessie Miller, Justin Miller and Scott Miller; his parents, Brent and Linda Miller; two sisters, Mrs. Becky Martin and Jennifer Miller; and grandchildren Jackson Boham, Bree Scott and Kellen Scott. A memorial service will be held at Central Baptist Church in Lenoir, 311Connely Springs Road, at 3 p.m. Saturday Feb. 9. Visitation with the family is from 2 to 3 p.m.

Hester Debrew

Hester Young Debrew of 322 Nuway Circle, Lenoir, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Lenoir Health Care Center.

She was born July 4, 1929, in Burke County to the late Charlie Young and the late Ethel Patterson Young. In addition to her parents, a twin brother, Lester Young, and brothers O.C. and James Johnson preceded her in death.

She was a member of Harper’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a retired nursing and domestic worker.

Survivors include her sister, Pauline Warren of Lenoir; nephew, Herman “Buddy” Patterson and wife Emily of Lenoir; niece, Sherry Young; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. at Harper’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charlie Rivens, Venoy Pearson and Eugene Kincaid officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon-12:55 p.m. at the church prior to the services.

Burial will follow services at Harpertown Community Cemetery.

Catherine Rutherford

Catherine Propst Rutherford, 82, of 3015 Corpening Chapel Road, Morganton, answered the call of the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center Inc.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at Corpening Chapel AME Church with the Revs. Willis Camp, III, Frances Tate and David Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-1:55 p.m. at the church prior to the services.
