Brenda Clough

Brenda Philyaw Clough, 63, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Caldwell County on July 16, 1949, to the late Clifford E. Philyaw and Myrtle Crump Philyaw. Her brother, James E. Philyaw, also preceded her in death.

Brenda enjoyed being outside in the beautiful outdoors and had a passion for good music and loving friends.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Severt Jr. and wife Tanya of Lenoir; grandchildren, Taylor Severt of Lenoir, Branson Severt of Lenoir, and Amber Severt of Hickory; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at Globe Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. with Joe Alvarado officiating. Following the service the family invites friends to join them at John’s River Camp for food, fellowship and music provided by Charlie Carpenter and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 prior to the service at the church.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.

Helen Wesson

Helen Beane Gibson Wesson, 82, of Lenoir passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Wesson was born in Caldwell County to the late Ransom Jones Beane and Clara Mae Honeycutt Beane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Paul Gibson and James Wesson; a daughter, Freda Ann Gibson; and a sister, Margie White.

She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Marty Gibson and wife Janet of Granite Falls; her daughter, Donna Lea Goude and husband Ray of Hayes, Va.; her brothers, Bill Beane of Hudson and James Beane of Maryland; her sisters, Jewel Sullivan of Morganton, Carolyn Sullivan of Granite Falls, Laura Melvin of Lenoir and Judy Suddreth of Granite Falls; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Goude, Ryan Goude and Evan Gibson.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Sam Craven officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.

Melissa Suddreth

Melissa Suddreth, 43, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.

She was born March 19, 1969, in Catawba County to Joann Vines Street and the late Eugene Street.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny “Max” Suddreth of the home; a daughter, Leila Michelle Street of Hickory; a son, Jordan Tyler Suddreth of Lenoir; and a granddaughter, Malaya “Mimi” Street.

She is also survived by a brother, Stephen Street and wife Frances of Connelly Springs; a sister, Gina Street Swisher and husband Michael of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Bright Light Tabernacle, 2777 Highland Ave., Hickory, NC 28601, on Friday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. The service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ray York and the Rev. Geren Street officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
