Velma Wilson
Mrs. Velma Mace Wilson, 83 of Connelly Springs, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Sunday December 23, 2012 at her residence, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Wilson was born May 28, 1929 in Yancey County, a daughter of the late Clay and Callie Waycaster Mace.  She was a faithful member of Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church and retired as a seamstress from the Alba-Waldensian Inc.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Wilson and two daughters, Glenna Wilson and Sue Barnes.
Surviving are two sons, James Wilson and wife Deborah of Valdese, Paul Wilson and wife Darlene of Lenoir; a son-in-law, Edgar Barnes of Connelly Springs; two brothers, Jack Mace of Spruce Pine and Morris Mace of Morehead City, three sisters, Faye Wilson of Drexel, Edna Phillips of Canton and Ann Marie Lewis of Beaufort, N.C.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.    
Funeral services for Velma Mace Wilson will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday December 27, 2012 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service inValdese with the Rev. Paul Grindstaff and the Rev. Brian Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Thursday at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese and on Wednesday at her residence.

Madge Parlier
Madge Bolick Parlier, 79, of Hudson, N.C., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 21, 2012, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Hudson, N.C.
She was born August 11, 1933 in Caldwell County to the late James Thomas and Ethel Benfield Bolick. She was a member of Ambassador Baptist Church, Hudson, N.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar G. Parlier, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by five daughters, Sandra Bumgarner and husband Larry of Hudson, N.C., Paulma Laws and husband Ronnie of Hudson, N.C., Cathy Cloninger and husband Willie of Hudson, N.C., Reba Clontz and husband James of Glen Alpine, N.C., and Angela Spelce and husband Jeffrey of Hudson, N.C., and one sister, Amy Johnson of Orange Park, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
There will be a celebration of her life at Ambassador Baptist Church of Hudson, N.C., on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 3 p.m., with Pastor Robert Setzer officiating.

Nancy Parlier
Nancy went to be with our Lord the morning of December 22, 2012 after suffering a fall at the hospital. Born January 18, 1927 in Lenoir, N.C., Nancy was the daughter of Randolph Carter and Margaret Hartley Carter and had one brother and two sisters. Nancy attended Flora MacDonald Junior College before she was married to William Carson Parlier on July 16, 1946. They have resided in Charlotte, N.C., their entire married lives. While raising their children, Nancy industriously continued her college education and graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C., then later received a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from UNC-Charlotte. She retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system after having taught first grade her entire career, primarily at Starmount Elementary School.
Nancy moved to Charlotte in 1946 and joined Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church. Shortly thereafter, she transferred her membership to Dilworth United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the Bowles Sunday School Class. Her church-wide activities included teaching elementary Sunday School, oversight of the nursery, Cub Scout den mother, coordinator of Bowles Class’ social events and coordinator of the bereavement committee.
Nancy was also very active in civic affairs, having been a 50-year member and past Regent of the Piedmont Patriots chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pilot Club, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, where she served on the ARC committee, Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Charlotte Herb Guild. She was also past president of the Association of Childhood Education.
Nancy was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, Hill Carter. Nancy is survived by William, her loving husband of 66 years, sons Harry Parlier (Kay) of Charlotte, N.C., and Bill Parlier (Theresa) of Ft. Myers, Fla., daughter Debra Parlier Hill (Doug) of Sunset Beach, N.C., and stepson Robert Parlier (Sandra) of Hickory, N.C. She also leaves behind granddaughters Elizabeth Elhassani, Jenny Parlier, Janice Fiola, Sarah Hill and Missy Trent; grandsons Will Parlier, Addison Hill, Jeff Parlier, Sean Parlier and several great-grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by her sisters Peggy Broyhill of Lenoir, N.C., and Martha Kirby of Durham, N.C.; brother-in-law, Ray Kirby of Durham, N.C.; sister-in-law, Edith Marie Carter of Ferguson, N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Dilworth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mildred Ferguson
Mrs. Mildred Lillie Fox Ferguson, 98, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Lenoir HealthCare. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service.

Elsie Widger
Elsie M. Widger, 74, of Boomer Road, Boomer, N.C., died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was born June 29, 1938 in Alleghany, New York to the late Ernest E. and Ella Cassidy Calkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Halvorsen; sisters Vivian Hayes and Lillian Calkins; a brother, Ernest “Bud” Calkins.
Survivors include her husband, Elton E. Widger Jr. of the home; daughters Mrs. Brenda Smithey and husband Jimmy of Boomer and Bonney Widner and husband Gary of Morvian Falls; sons Lawrence Halvorsen of Burnsville and Martin Halvorsen Jr. of Morvian Falls; sisters Ms. Evelyn Bolster of LeRoy, N.Y., and Mrs. Carolyn Morris of Geneseo, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Sharon Walker Baptist Church in Boomer, N.C., conducted by Pastor Fred Staley

Grover Courtney
Grover R. Courtney, 65, of Hartland Road, Lenoir died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. He was born October 21, 1947 in Caldwell County to the late Danny M. Courtney Sr. and Doris Harward Courtney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny M. Courtney Jr.
Mr. Courtney was a self-employed carpenter. He was also a United States Navy veteran having served in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rena’ Golds Courtney of the home; and one brother, Henry Harward Courtney of Washington, DC.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Littlejohn United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Dr. Steve Parker.

A. Marie Burns, 61, of Old Davis Place, Lenoir died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the residence. She was born January 4, 1951 in Japan to the late Bobby D. Triplett Sr. and Ann Takimoto Triplett.
Mrs. Burns was employed with Duke Power Energies.
Survivors include a brother, Rex G. Triplett of Lenoir.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 7 p.m., at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Ronnie Craig.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald Triplett
Donald L. Triplett, 71, of Amber Pond Ct., Granite Falls died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Lenoir HealthCare Center. He was born March 5, 1941 in Wilkes County to the late Dow and Velma Townsend Triplett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Triplett was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Brenda Phillips Triplett of the home; sons Timothy Triplett of Granite Falls and James Triplett of Hickory; a daughter, Tina Wooten and husband Mike of Hickory; stepsons, Jamey Mitcham and wife Melissa and Jody Mithcam and wife Amanda, both of Hudson, and Todd Mitcham of Hickory; stepdaughters Cheryl Calloway and husband Mike of Granite Falls and Kristie Ferguson of Hickory; a brother, Clyde Triplett of Granite Falls; sisters Vergie Brown and Shirley Moretz, both of Lenoir, Wilma Coffey and Marie Hefner, both of Granite Falls; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 11 a.m., at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jim Lee.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

William “Henry” Estes
William Henry Estes, 83, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Estes was born in Caldwell County to the late Lank Estes and Sallie Griffin Estes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Lank Estes; a daughter, Mary Estes, and a great-grandson, Dalton.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Watson Estes of the home; sons Richard Estes and wife Diana of Lenoir, James Estes and wife Billie of Lenoir, Wayne Estes and wife Alesa of Hudson, David Estes and wife Kama of Lenoir; daughters Debra Grethen of Lenoir, Nancy Cardwell and husband Robin of Hudson, Sharon Chester of Lenoir, Valerie Triplett of Lenoir; sisters Ann Keller and Macy Micheal; also left to cherish his memory are 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and his loving dog Otis.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Robert England officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eugene Grethen, James Estes Jr., Ethan Estes, Joshua Triplett, Brandon Triplett, Scott Triplett and Dustin Chester.
