Wade Smith Norris, 94, of Lenoir passed away December 26, 2012 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Norris was born in Watauga County to the late William Lee Norris and Effie Loretta Moretz Norris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Trilla Crowder Norris, a daughter, Joyce Arnell Norris, and second wife Betty Hamby Norris.
He was retired from Broyhill Furniture Company and an active charter member of West Lenoir Baptist Church. Wade will be greatly missed, not only by his personal family, but by his church family and his Koinonia family, where he happily spent the last seven years of his life. He was blessed with a long, healthy life, a man with a strong Christian faith. His example of kindness and humility will be remembered by all who knew him.
Survivors include his children, Hilda N. Taylor and husband Ray Taylor of Lenoir, Loretta N. Chester and husband John Chester of Lenoir, Robert E. Norris and wife Patsy T. Norris of Conover, Dennis L. Norris and wife Pam C. Norris of Lenoir and E. Earl Owens and wife Sue Owens of Lenoir; grandchildren Monica T. Hoover and husband Tommy of Lenoir, Michael Chester and wife Brandy of Banner Elk, Tracy N. Correll and husband Scott of Conover, Kelly C. Everhart and husband Buck of Lenoir, Renee Norris of Lenoir, Charles W. Norris and fiancé Amy Tadlock of Newton and Ashley N. Penley and husband Mike of Lenoir; 13 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and one sister, Hazel Moretz of Icard.
Services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at noon at West Lenoir Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Safriet and the Rev. James Lockey officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be his great grandsons.

Charles “Curtis” Johnson, 75, of Lenoir, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born in Westmorland County, Va., to the late Henry Johnson and Elizabeth Hampton Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jeanette Ingle Johnson; his son, Steve Curtis Johnson; his brother, Henry Johnson and a sister, Millie Pauley.
He was retired from Broyhill Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his sisters, Ethel Kierson of King George, Va., Viola Epperson of King George, Va., and Willma Stevenson of Fredricksburg, Va.; his half-brother John Hoskins of Fredricksburg, Va.; sister in law and caregiver Natalie Reeves of Hudson; and four brothers in law and a sister in law.
A funeral service will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 3 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.

Nancy Jeanette Robbins Franklin, 74, of Granite Falls, passed away Wednesday December 26, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Franklin was born on June 10, 1938 in Caldwell County to the late Aaron Wilbur and Alma Nancy Pennell Robbins. She was a member of New Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Granite Falls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Dwain Franklin; one daughter, Janet Leigh Franklin Evans; one brother, Jay Wilbur Robbins; and one sister, Hazel Mason.
Survivors include her children, Cheryl Franklin of Lenoir and Keith Franklin of Lenoir; grandchildren Billy Evans of Morganton, Abby Wilson and husband Michael of Ellenboro; five great-grandchildren, Jedidiah Evans, Dominic Evans, Olivia Parton, Lilly Wilson and Alex Wilson. Also surviving are one sister, Patricia Propst of Granite Falls, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Morganton with Dr. Brady Adkins officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m., at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.

Brent Russell Winkler, 65, of Granite Falls passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley.
He was born January 15, 1947 in Catawba County to the late Willard Winkler and Dorothy Hice Winkler.
Brent attended Center Grove Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver with Kerr’s Ready Mixed Concrete. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post #48. He was also a very avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Workman Winkler of the home; a daughter, Tammy Barlow of Hudson; a granddaughter, Priscilla Bell of Hudson; three brothers, Barry R. Winkler of Hudson, Michael D. Winkler of Hudson and Robert W. Winkler of Granite Falls; and also his beloved pet companions, Itzey and Dip Stick.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 in the Bass-Smith Granite Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Perry officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services from 10 until 11 a.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barry, Michael, Robert, Mark, Hunter and David.

Mrs. Mildred Lillie Fox Ferguson, 98, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Lenoir HealthCare. She was born in Caldwell County on December 16, 1914 to the late John Fox and Della Hackett Fox.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Bobby and Johnny Ferguson; her husband, Ben Ferguson; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her son, Ben Ferguson Jr. and wife Holly of St. Thomas, VI; a daughter, Jessie F. Johnson of Bronx, NY; Claude E. Ferguson and wife Sharon of San Jose, Calif.; Marlene F. Dula and husband, Calvin of Lenoir; a sister, Dorothy Stephenson of Lenoir; a brother, Raymond Fox and wife Thelma of Lenoir; a brother, John Fox and wife, Betty of Simpsonville, S.C.; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mrs. Ferguson’s life will be held at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Charlie Rivens officiating. Interment will immediately following the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m., until 2 p.m., prior to the service.

Richard Lane Whittington, 70, of Dales Place, Hudson died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the residence. He was born January 9, 1942 in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Charlie Luther and Virginia Blaine Houston Whittington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Jean Whittington, Pauline Christine Carpenter and Frances Whittington; and two brothers, Marshall Luther Whittington and Virgil Keith Whittington.
Mr. Whittington was a retired watchman for Broyhill National Veneer.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Whittington of the home; a son, Richard Lane Whittington Jr. of Lenoir; two daughters, Lori Sutton of Cajah’s Mountain and Billie Sue Helton and husband James of Lenoir; three step-daughters, Melissa Bowlin and husband Ricky of Happy Valley, Sharon Greene of Lenoir and Rebecca Hodges and husband Michael of Granite Falls; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Nancy Campbell. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
