David Herman

David Dwayne Herman, 49, of Lenoir, formerly of Hickory, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Valdese General Hospital.

Harold Patrick

Harold Dean Patrick, 80, of Lenoir went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Center.

Born March 31, 1933, in McDowell County, he was the son of Birder Taft Patrick and Nannie May Freshour Patrick. He was a graduate of Blantons Business College in Asheville and was the owner and operator of Domestic & Import Auto Parts for many years.

Mr. Patrick served in the United States Air Force in the Korean conflict.

He was a faithful member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. He also enjoyed playing golf and a good game of shooting pool.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Frank Patrick, and one sister, Joyce Woody.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Gladys Patrick of the home; three sons, Gene Patrick (Carla) of Marion, David Patrick (Hope) of Lenoir and Tim Patrick (Laura) of Hudson; one daughter, Patricia Patrick of Lenoir; eight grandchildren, Misty Hensley, Jessica Patrick, Cecil Burrell, Jason Patrick, Clyde Osborne Jr., Crystal Cannon, Chris Patrick and Richard Patrick; 11 great-grandchildren, Tori Hensley, Monica Cannon, Jade Price, Jared Osborne, Jarrett Patrick, Izabella Patrick, Abe Patrick, Tanner Patrick, Logan Patton, Cassidy Patton, and Pace Patrick.

He also leaves behind two brothers, Howard “Sonny” Patrick and James “Doc” Patrick; and two sisters, Helen Young and Barbara Randolph.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Grandview Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Spann officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Baucom, Dick Robinson, David Ray Greene, Scott Young, Gary Randolph and Ray Patrick.

Memorials may be made to Grandview Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2553 Grandview Circle, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Mack Greer

Mack Jerry Greer, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Baton Baptist Church, Hudson. Military honors will be conducted by DAV Chapters 6 and 84.

Charles Wallace

Charles Raymond Wallace, 76, of Caldwell County passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 13, 1937, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Charles Russell and Coyt Bean Wallace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Kyle Wallace, a sister, Brenda Ann Wallace, a grandson, JR Walsh, and special sister-in-law, Sandi Thomas.

Mr. Wallace was a faithful Christian and was an active member of the Whitnel United Methodist Church, where he served as a Senior High Sunday School class teacher for over 25 years. He felt very blessed to teach and work in this ministry and always showed pride and love for each person. He served as a sound engineer for Chancel Choir practices for many years and previously helped during worship services as needed. Mr. Wallace also presented many narrations during seasonal cantatas for over 25 years.

Mr. Wallace enjoyed a variety of interests. He loved backpacking, hiking and camping in Linville Gorge with friends and family, which included his and Nana’s grandchildren - Will, Jenna, Liam, and Rachael Wallace. He was blessed with a special gift of artistry and painted beautiful oil, acrylic, and water color paintings. He enjoyed sailing with family and friends at Lake Cheney, Kan., and Tybee Island Beach, Ga. He loved spending time with his young grandchildren, often visiting and taking them on frequent outings. He will be remembered as a wonderful and faithful husband, a revered dad and role model, and a loving and doting “Paw.”

Mr. Wallace attended Granite Falls High School. He served during the mid-1950s in the United States Air Force and was stationed for two years in Germany, where he trained in electronics and worked in radar. Mr. Wallace worked for Martin Missile Company in radar and then worked as a Computer Service Engineer, retiring from Bell Atlantic Systems Services after working an over 30 year career.

Left to cherish his memory are his “sweetheart” and wife of over 41 years, Brenda T. Wallace; sons, Scott Charles Wallace (wife Heather) of Rincon, Ga., Jeremy Chad Wallace (wife Sara) of Lenoir, Charles R. Wallace Jr. of Liberty, and Russell Kirk Wallace of Hudson; daughters, Gina Stanbury (husband Garry) of Granite Falls, Charlene Black (husband Steve) of Georgia, and Lisa Bastian, of Georgia; brother, Bruce Wallace (wife Betty) of Granite Falls; sister, Kay Wallace of Charlotte; his special brother-in-law, John Thomas of Boomer; and 14 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will be at Whitnel United Methodist Church located at 1373 Delwood Drive, Lenoir, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. conducted by Dr. Dana Bunn and Speaker John Thomas. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

Pallbearers are Michael Cook, Michael Lookadoo, Mark Macchia, the Rev. Bobby Petree, John Spencer, and Ben Thomas.

Honorary Pallbearers are the past members of Mr. Wallace’s Senior High Sunday School classes at Whitnel UMC.

Steven Crump

Steven Allen Crump, 41, of Granite Falls passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but will be announced later by Evans Funeral Service & Crematory of Lenoir.

John Walsh

John Walsh, 94, of Boomer died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Beaver Creek Baptist with the Rev. Shane Pardue officiating. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive at Beaver Creek Baptist Church from 1:15 until 1:45 prior to the service.

Mr. Walsh was born in Caldwell County, Dec. 28, 1918, to Thomas Fredrick and Lucy Jane Hattin Walsh. He was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Walsh was the owner of John Walsh Logging. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving a good conduct medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was also a member of the National Racking Horse Association.

In addition to his parents and wife, Josie Walsh, Mr. Walsh was preceded in death by three sons, Leonard Walsh, Thomas W. Walsh Sr., and Alton E. Walsh; four brothers, Fed Walsh, R.C. “Cap” Walsh, Rollin Hill “Bill” Walsh, and Dan Walsh.

Mr. Walsh is survived by one son, Steven R. Walsh and wife Katheryn of Ferguson; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Siddie Brookshire and husband Clay, and Mattie Sherrill and husband Wayne, all of Lenoir; and one brother, Paul Walsh and wife Winnie of Lenoir.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Caldwell, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.

Kathleen Moore

Kathleen “Mutt” Moore, 96, of Vine Street, Lenoir, formerly of Mulberry, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the residence. She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Caldwell County to the late Everett Mack and Mary Josephine Palmer Lamberth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otis F. Moore; son, Roy “Buddy” Moore; daughter, Betty McMillon; son-in-law, Roger D. Tolbert; granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Tolbert; sisters, Wilma Suddreth, Georgia Bowman, Virginia Lewis and Lucille Kerns; and cousin, LaVerne Jenkins.

Mrs. Moore was retired from Broyhill Furniture Lenoir Chair # 3. She was a member of First Advent Christian Church of Lenoir. Her passion was quilting and reading. She loved being with family and grandkids and enjoyed going to the auction.

Survivors include daughters, Joanne Carpenter and husband Johnny of Hudson, and Virginia Tolbert of Lenoir; daughter-in-law, Mildred Moore of Lenoir; sister, Mildred Sykes of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Keith McMillon of Lenoir, Denise Goble of Florida, Eric McMillon of Hickory, Anthony Tolbert of Goldsboro and Janet Ledbetter of Hudson; great-grandchildren, Darleen Quinn of Goldsboro, Kathleen Tolbert of Raleigh, Bryanna Ledbetter of Hudson, Haylea Ledbetter of Hudson and Keaton McMillon of Lenoir; and a great-great-granddaughter, Carlee Quinn of Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Lynn Hawkins. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Keith McMillon, Eric McMillon, Keaton McMillon, Anthony Tolbert, Tim Ledbetter and Joe Moore.

Gregory Triplett

Gregory Glenn Triplett, 59, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Caldwell County on Sept. 15, 1954, to the late Glenn F. Triplett and Barbara McLean Triplett. He was married to Joan Brakefield Triplett of the residence.

Greg was loved by his family and will be remembered as having never met a stranger. He was comical and a well-known musician. He played with the Sylvio Martinat Swing Band, was a member of the Triplett Family Gospel Group, and a former broadcaster for WKGX. Greg was a 1973 graduate of Lenoir High School and later worked for Bernhardt Furniture Industries. He was a member of the Historical Preservation 26th NC Troops Reactivated and a former member of the Fife and Drum Corps. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Jeffrey Lynn Triplett.

Other than his wife, he is survived by his son, Jason Gregory Triplett and wife Courtney of Lenoir; son, Matthew Edward Triplett and wife Kimberly of Idaho; daughter, Myra Kimberlee Triplett of Chapel Hill; brother, Terry Triplett and wife Elisa of Lenoir; grandchildren, Vallarie Marie Triplett, Owen McLean Triplett, Ava Lou Triplett; and the family is anxiously awaiting the arrival of their newest grandson; and he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A celebration on Greg’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Steve Connor officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Tony Edward Brakefield, David Keller, Marcus Keller, Phillip Glasco, Jonathan Ansley and John Yokeley. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Whisnant, Keith Triplett and Dallin Brown.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

James Dula

James Walsh Dula, 83, of Lenoir passed away on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care following a period of declining health.

James was born on July 3, 1930, in Caldwell County to the late John Spencer and Bertha Josephine Walsh Dula. He was a member of First Advent Church, Morganton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Winchester Dula and two sons, John Robert Dula and James Wesley Dula.

Survivors include his children Jack Edward Dula of Granite Falls, Donna Leigh Dula Laws of Lenoir, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. David Crisp officiating. Interment will follow at Belleview Cemetery, Lenoir.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church.
