Norma Clark

Norma Williams Clark, 78, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir.

Mrs. Clark was born in Caldwell County to the late Herbert Williams and Florence Price Williams. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Fillmore Clark, and a son, Gary Clark, former Caldwell County sheriff. She was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church.

Her son, Alan Clark, and his wife, Vicki, of Lenoir are left to cherish her memory.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 3 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. James Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The men of Calvary Advent Christian Church will serve as pallbearers.

Thomas Murphy Sr.

Thomas Lathan Murphy Sr., 79, of Birch Street, Granite Falls, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at the residence. He was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Kershaw County, S.C., to the late Aaron and Louise Thomas Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Erica Lynette Murphy; two brothers, James W. Murphy and Albert Murphy; and one sister, Ruth Forney.

Mr. Murphy was a retired engineer for Duke Energy and a member of Burgess Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of Victory Masonic Lodge # 745. He was also a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Louise Dula Murphy of the home; two sons, Thomas “Skip” Murphy and wife Sinthia of Dallas, Texas, and Bishop Terrell Murphy and wife Susan of Huntersville; and grandchildren, Erica Murphy, Thomas Murphy III, Samuel Murphy and Johnathan Murphy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at noon at First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls conducted by Bishop Terrell Murphy and Pastor Lisa Moore. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers and flower bearers will be family and friends

Virginia Hensley

Virginia Hamlet Hensley, 95, of Charlotte passed away peacefully at Caromont Regional Health on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. Virginia was the daughter of the late Claude Milton and Myrtle Eldridge Hamlet.

Mrs. Hensley graduated from Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1940. She married William Lewis Hensley, who preceded her in death in 1994 after more than 50 years of marriage. She enjoyed being a homemaker, a gardener and a super seamstress for her family  It has been said that Virginia had more flowers in her yard than grass. Mrs. Hensley was a member of Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Hensley was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Hamlet.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hensley McGee and husband James R.; a granddaughter, Alyssa M. Thomas and husbandWayne; a grandson, Greg McGee and wife Suzie; and great-grandchildren, Raegan Thomas, Masden Thomas, Christopher McGee and Katie McGee; and sister-in-law Jean Hamlet.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. with a graveside service following at Forest Lawn West Cemetery at 11 a.m., 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte N.C. 28208.

Mrs. Hensley’s family requests that memorials be made to Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.

Artie Keller

Artie Louise Pipes Keller, 88, of Granite Falls went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013. Born Sept. 10, 1925, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Pipes and Hattie Harris Pipes.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Keller, and one son, Ralph “Bud” Keller, a grandson, one great-grandson, three sisters and one brother.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sue Pipes Keller of Granite Falls; two sons, Paul Keller Jr., and Ray “Possum” T. Keller and wife Sandy, all of Granite Falls; a daughter-in-law, Cora H. Keller of Hickory; and a brother, the Rev. Billy Pipes Sr. and wife Darlene of Hickory; special family friend Clark Devier of Granite Falls; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Artie Keller was a member of New Vision Baptist Fellowship and retired from Hickory Springs Mfg., where she worked on the assembly line. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at New Vision Baptist Fellowship from 3 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at 4 p.m. at New Vision Baptist Church with the Rev. Ashley Crouse officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Keller Jr. Steve Keller, Randy Keller, Jerry Keller, John Keller and Josh Keller. The family would like to say a special thanks to all the loving staff of Hospice at the Pine Mountain Road Location in Hudson, N.C.

Betty Abee

Mrs. Betty Jaynes Abee, 77, of Lenoir, went to her Heavenly Home Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. at Zion Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Zion Memorial. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Zion Memorial.

Greg Casper

Gregory Larry Casper, 48, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Caldwell County on Nov. 24, 1964 to Mary Houck Loudermelt and the late Robert Larry Casper.

Greg was employed by Lowe’s Foods in Bethlehem as a cake decorator, was a former manager of Baskin-N-Robbins in Hickory and also a former Bakery Manager of Winn-Dixie in Lenoir.

Greg was a key member of Starfleet International where he served in several capacities, including President of the Hickory chapter. He was also a leader in several area fan clubs and social organizations. He also enjoyed his other hobby as a gunsmith.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his stepfather, Clyde Loudermelt of the residence; sisters, Rhonda Hollars and husband, Joseph of Granite Falls; Alma Vite and husband, Hilario of Gamewell; niece, Deanna Flores; nephews, Jacob Hollars and L.J. Vite; and numerous other relatives.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at 12 noon with Reverend Randy Houck officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Scott Maynard, Patrick Maynard, Larry Erby, Ryan Kelly, William Travis and Bill Bump.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Hollars, Hilario Vite, Tony Vanhorn and Rick Bridgeman.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Ted George Hartley

Ted George Hartley, age 75, of Horseshoe Bend Road, Hudson, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Shaire Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1938 in Burke County to the late Arthur and Maggie Norris Hartley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Vonnie Miller Hartley; and brothers, Harold, Darryl, Jimmy, Bill, Harry, Jerry and Charles Hartley.

Mr. Hartley was retired from Broyhill Furniture and a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Marcus T. Hartley and wife Shelly of Hudson; one daughter, Paula H. Stoots and husband Jason of Granite Falls; two brothers, Earl Hartley and wife Brenda and Thomas Hartley and wife Shirley, both of Hudson; one sister, Frances Poarch and husband Ronald of Morganton; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jeff Burkheimer and Rev. Myron Davis. Interment will be private at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
