Genevieve Hagerty

Genevieve “Jane” Blundo Hagerty, 89, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley. She was born April 10, 1925, in New Castle, Penn., to the late Joseph and Anna Marie Blundo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Paul Hagerty Sr.; four brothers, Mike Blundo, Jack Blundo, Ralph Blundo and Benny Blundo; two sisters, Betty Tartalone and Josephine Milandro.

Mrs. Hagerty was retired from Drillers Service Inc. in Hickory. She was as faithful member of Christ United Lutheran Church NALC.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Stanly and husband Mitch of Dobson; sons, Paul Hagerty Jr. and wife Sybil of Granite Falls, and Wesley Hagerty of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Anita Macdougall of Pennsylvania, Carol and husband Casey McLeod of Georgia, Danny Macdougall of South Carolina, James Hagerty and wife Melanie of Granite Falls, and Wesley Hagerty and wife Tammy of Casar; 11 great-grandchildren, Rachelle Scott, Kristen Smith, Melise Mitchelltree, Andrew Mitchelltree, Somer Mitchelltree, Tori Iboden, David Suddeth, Wesley Hagerty II, Cody Hagerty, Breanna Hagerty, Molly Hagerty; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Barone.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Christ United Lutheran Church NALC, 170 Duke St., Granite Falls, conducted by Pastor Heidi Punt.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Christ United Lutheran Church Building Fund, 170 Duke St., Granite Falls, NC 28630, or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

John Hamby

John Hamby, 78, of Granite Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 11, 1935, son of the late Calvin Lee and Coleen Helton Hamby.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elby Wilson Hamby of the home; one son, Robert Hamby and wife Mary of Granite Falls; three daughters, Annette Sane and husband Randy of Shelby, Evelyn Collier and husband Rufus of Granite Falls, and Connie Richards and husband Ed of Lenoir; two sisters and three brothers; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Louise Torrence; and three brothers, Fred, Howard and Dennis Hamby.

The family will receive friends at Mackie Funeral Home, Granite Falls, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 27, 2014, 2 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Parker and the Rev. Ed Richards officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Military honors will be conducted by Chapters 6 and 84.

Geneva Hall

On March 22, 2014, the Lord called his precious child Geneva Faye Coffey Hall home.

Born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Watauga County, Geneva was a daughter of the late Marion Oliver and Lyda Ruth Edminsten Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Coffey; several infant siblings; a niece, Martha Fox; and a grandson, Matthew Issac Higgins.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson, where she taught adult Sunday School for many years. She loved children and was a school teacher at Hudson Elementary for 32 years, and was also a Cub Scout leader. She and her husband, Stanley Hall, enjoyed traveling and had been to all fifty states. Geneva had a love for flowers and birds.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Stanley Robert Hall of Hudson; one daughter, Ruth Hall Higgins (husband Nelson) of Asheville; one son, Marion Stanley Hall (wife Stephanie) of Lenoir; one grandson, Robert Edwin Allen Higgins (wife Beth) of High Point, and one great-grandson, Declan Sean Higgins; two sisters, Eula Mae Fox and Nancy Haas (husband David) both of Boone; and a sister-in- law, Hortense Coffey of Quaker Hill, Conn. Geneva is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other family and friends that she loved.

A funeral service for Mrs. Hall will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hudson with the Rev. Jim Hamby and the Rev. Mack Jarvis officiating. Pallbearers are Edwin Higgins, Lynn Reid, David Reid, Tim Haas, George Fox, and E. B. Fox. Entombment will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Geneva loved flowers, and they are welcomed to honor her memory. Memorials may also be made to Hospice of Caldwell County.

Evelyn Barnes

Evelyn Barnes, born Feb. 11, 1933, to Henry and Lois Baldwin, died peacefully March 15, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at Zacks Fork Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, in honor of Evelyn's life.

Linda Patterson

Linda Nelson Patterson, 71, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., a native of Lenoir, died Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Among her survivors are brother Joe Nelson and wife Janice of Lenoir.

Services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Winnabow.

Angela Loraine McKinney, 47, of Morganton died Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Anita Beaver

Anita Darlene Adams Beaver, 52, of Quail Ridge Court, Lenoir, died Sunday, March 16, 2014. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 28, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Celia Creek Baptist. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Elden Smith

Elden Kent Smith, 61, of Hickory Nut Ridge Road, Hudson, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the residence. He was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Caldwell County to the late Thad and Mae McGee Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired letter carrier from the Hudson Post Office. He was an active member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was involved in numerous church activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Debbie Maltba Smith of the home; one son, Brian Smith of Asheville; and one brother, Lance Smith of Hudson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ron Burgett and the Rev. Jim Hamby. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Miller, Lane Maltba, Robert Miller, Richard Miller, Jerry Smith and Tony Ramsey.

Billy Perkins

Billy Joe Perkins, better known from North Carolina to Texas and all points in between as “Square Deal Sam,” passed away on Sunday March 23, 2014.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1947, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Kathleen Taylor Perkins. For the last 38 years, Mr. Perkins was a long-distance truck driver for Bernhardt Furniture Co. He was recently recognized by Bernhardt Furniture Co. for driving over 2 million miles safely. When he was not on the road working, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with his friends, hunting for a big bass on Lake Rhodhiss, or keeping his neighbors awake honing his marksmanship skills with one of his firearms.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Lee Perkins.

Left here on earth to cherish his memory are his son, Brian Perkins and wife Teresa of Lenoir, and all of his “adopted” children and grandchildren, friends, co-workers and his two miniature dachshunds, Toby and Joey, who patiently sit at the door and wait for him to return.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, 1 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.

David Greene

David Lee Greene, 73, of Old North Road, Lenoir, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. He was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Wilkes County to the late Callie Early Greene and Hazel A. Goulds Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Greene.

Mr. Greene was retired from Hibriten Furniture and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Travis Cox of the home, and Terry Messer and wife Kathy of Lenoir; three brothers, Travis Greene and wife Judy, and Dennis Greene, both of Wilkes County, and Creed Greene and wife Holly of Deep Gap; three sisters, Irene Phelps of Wilkes County, Holly Smith and husband John of Deep Gap, and Jewel Greene of Millers Creek; and a grandson, Chris Messer.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Bryan Davis.
