Albert Chester

Albert Finley Chester, 78, of Atwood Court, Lenoir, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Lenoir Health Care. He was born March 25, 1936 in Caldwell County to the late Finley and Martha Coffey Chester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters.

Mr. Chester was a self-employed Sawmill worker.

Survivors include one brother, Paul Chester of Lenoir; three sisters, Mrs. Flora Adkins, Mrs. Rowena Negron, both of Illinois, and Addie Lambert of Lenoir; and sister-in-law, Thelma Chester.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12 noon at Ford’s Family Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Russell Cook.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice.

Gladys Clark

Gladys C. Clark, 86, of Ellerwood Road, Hudson, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Caldwell County to the late Archie Edgar and Nellie I. Bollinger Cobb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Cobb and Arnold Cobb; three sisters, Virgie Thompson, Mae Thompson and Ann Cobb; and one granddaughter, Mary Catherine Clark.

Mrs. Clark was a registered nurse for more than 40 years at Frye Regional Medical Center and at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church. She was a master gardener and herbalist and active in the Caldwell County Genealogy Society. Gladys loved to travel, to paint and the outdoors.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil L. Clark of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Cecelia Clark and husband Larry of Hickory, and Mrs. Suzette Bradshaw and husband Douglas of Granite Falls; one brother, Jerry Norman Cobb of Lenoir; sisters, Colene C. Thompson of Valdese and Ruth C. Howard of Lenoir; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jim Evans and Pastor Jennifer Hiatt. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
