Rebecca Goin

Rebecca “Becky” Tester Goin, age 52, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Caldwell County on July 23, 1961 to Dannie Icenhour and the late Wytona Braswell Icenhour.

Becky was a beloved mother and grandmother and enjoyed her time working and serving others at Caldwell Opportunities.

Other than her mother she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Icenhour.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Alvarez, April Tester, and Rebecca Tester; grandchildren, William Harden, Christian Tester, Hunter Little, Caitlin MacWilliams, Quinton Ford; great-grandson, Bayden Harden; and 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

A celebration of Becky’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 5 p.m. with Pastor David Huskey officiating. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service.

Gary Shoemaker

Gary Edgar Shoemaker, Sr., age 71, passed away on August 16, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Caldwell County on June 1, 1942 to the late Howard Edgar Shoemaker and Frances West Shoemaker.

Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church and was the manager of The Coves Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and loved his friends and golf buddies.

Mr. Shoemaker was the former owner of Shoemaker Oil and a former member of Orchard Hills Golf Course, the Lenoir Golf Club and the Whitnel Optimist Club where he coached Little League Baseball. Over the years he was involved with various youth sports programs throughout the county.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Shoemaker; sister, Gail Price; and aunt, Muriel West.

He is survived by his son, Gary Shoemaker, Jr. and wife, Terrie; daughter, Amy Shoemaker; long-time companion, Jeanette Main; sister, Pamela Shoemaker; brother, Terry Shoemaker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mr. Shoemaker’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 12 Noon  with Pastor Jim Lee officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 12 p.m. prior to the service.

James Clark

Mr. James Forrest Clark, 90, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Golden Living - Starmount.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.  There will be a visitation at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Evans Funeral Home, 1070 Taylorsville Road, Lenoir, N.C.

Mr. Clark owned and operated a convenience store and service station for many years.  He proudly served in the Navy during World War II landing soldiers on Omaha Beach on D Day. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred “Buck” Clark and sisters, Lavada Edmondson and Jewel Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen S. Clark of the home; daughters, Katie Edwards and Dianne Barham both of Greensboro; two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters, brother, Gene Clark of Lenoir and several nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215
