Brent Mergen

Brent William Mergen, 52, of Granite Falls passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Evans Funeral Service & Crematory of Lenoir.

William Schirmer

William Eugene “Gene” Schirmer, 85, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

Born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Sullivan’s Island, S.C., Gene was a son of the late W.E. and Sallie Mobley Schirmer. He was a member of Freedom Independent Baptist Church. Gene graduated from Piedmont Baptist College. He was a preacher and a boat and house painter together for 40 years. Gene was a veteran serving in the US Navy in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Anne Benfield Schirmer of the home.

A private graveside service celebrating Gene’s life will be held at a later time in the Freedom Independent Baptist Church Cemetery.

Frank Everhardt

Frank Douglas Everhardt, 65, of Cameo Lane, Lenoir, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. He was born March 5, 1948, in Caldwell County to the late Harless “Polly” Everhardt and Pansey Beach Everhardt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Everhardt.

Mr. Everhardt was a painter for Kincaid Auto and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Severt Everhardt of the home; one son, Chad Everhardt of Bryson City, Tenn.; one daughter, Deanna Winters and husband Gary of Conover; two stepsons, Billy Scott Paisley and wife Marti, and Chris Paisley, both of Lenoir; one stepdaughter, Tracy Paisley McCall of Lenoir; one brother, Paul Everhardt of Flowermont, Texas; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.
