Lois Ruth Griffin Conley, 86, of Hollywood Ridge Road, Lenoir, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born July 18, 1926, in Caldwell County to the late Claude Eugene Griffin Sr. and Ollie Kirby Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley Hunt Conley; one brother, Claude Griffin Jr.; one sister, Charlotte Coffey; one son-in-law, Joe Everhardt; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Conley.
Mrs. Conley was a retired secretary with The Carpet Shop in Lenoir and was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Wayne Conley of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Roger Hunt Conley of Lenoir; one daughter, Linda Everhardt of Lenoir; one brother, Mack Russell Griffin of Morganton; one sister, Annie Anderson of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Renee’ Moriarty and husband Joe, Larry Conley Jr. and wife Jessica, Richard Sumpter and wife Arnetta, and Jason Conley and wife Melinda; seven great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 4 p.m. at Yadkin Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Livingston and Rev. Edyth Pruitt. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Rogers, Shannon Harmon, Alex Nichols, Edward Greene, Jason Myers and Joe Moriarty.

Hazel S. Tamminga, 88, of Village Circle, Lenoir, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Gateway Nursing Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Harry Green, 76, of Dallas Street, Lenoir, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at the residence. He was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to the late Williard and Mary E. Park Green.
Mr. Green was a self-employed painter and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mevoli Green of the home; two sons, Richard Harry Green of Pensacola, Fla., and John Michael Green and wife Gina of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Christine Marie Woodrum of Lenoir; one brother, William Green of New York; one sister, Alice Marony of Hyde Park, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Brent William “Boo Boo” Mergen, 52, of Granite Falls passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born July 23, 1960, in Grant County, Wis., Brent was the son of the late Thomas William Mergen and Ruth Ann Kirschbaum Mergen of Bloomington, Wis.
Brent will always be remembered as a generous and compassionate person. Even at his passing, he donated the gift of sight for someone else. He loved fishing, golfing, photography, the euchre card game and reading. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, a real “Cheese Head” at heart. Brent was extremely proud of his son, Josh, who is currently an actor aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Other than his mother, he is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ruth Mergen of the home; son Josh Drake of Portland, Maine, currently residing in New York City; two sisters, Kim Martin and husband Kevin of Bloomington, Wis., and Amy Montgomery and husband Craig of Sun Prairie, Wis.; two brothers, Bruce Mergen and wife Shirley of Birmingham, Ala., and Alan Mergen and wife Dawn of Bloomington, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He is also survived by his fishing buddies, David, Timmy and Brian, and his golfing buddy, Johnnie.
A casual gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, April 8, at Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 6 to 7 p.m.
To honor Brent, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to further his son Josh Drake’s education. Memorials can be given to Ruth Mergen.

Rosie Elree Ferguson, 87, of Lenoir passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at her daughter’s residence following a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 16, 1926, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Monroe Ferguson and Elma Witherspoon Ferguson.
Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd Ferguson; one brother, Charlie B. Ferguson; and four sisters, Galietha Hackett, Iana Jones, Dorothy Ferguson, and Pedither Witherspoon.
She was a lifetime member of Mitchell’s Chapel AME Church, where she served as a trustee, and served on the Missionary Circle and Lay Organization. She also was a member of the Soul Singing Caravan for 33 years serving as secretary.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Darius Patterson of Lenoir; grandchildren, Nita Abdullah and husband Said of Greensboro, and Anthony Ferguson and wife Briana of Lenoir; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Edith Theresa Howell; sisters-in-law, Ruth Harshaw and Thelma Ferguson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
The funeral service honoring Mrs. Ferguson will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Verdell Patterson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Mitchell’s Chapel AME Church cemetery following the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Patterson, Rodrick Ferguson, Ervin Patterson, Virgil Witherspoon, Shawn Lindon and Paul Witherspoon. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Lindon and James Davenport.
