Willard Joseph Duffey, 86, of Hickory passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 7, 1927, in Caldwell County to the late Wallace D. Duffey and Emma Ritchie Duffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Virginia Bowman Duffey and Lana Yoder Duffey, one brother, and one sister.
Mr. Duffey was a graduate of Clevenger’s Business College of Hickory and served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy D. Duffey and his wife, Candy of Lenoir, and William S. Duffey of Hickory; two daughters, Janey E. Rector and her husband, Tony of Granite Falls, and Linda Livingston and her husband, Derick of Newton; a sister, Lucille Muskewitz and her husband, Fred of Florida; nine grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel with Reverend Jimmy D. Duffey officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hickory. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services at Bass-Smith Granite.

Garline Jesse Lewis, 71, of Granite Falls passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 7, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
Harry Green, 76, of Dallas Street, Lenoir, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at the residence. He was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to the late Williard and Mary E. Park Green.
Mr. Green was a self-employed painter and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Mevoli Green of the home; two sons, Richard Harry Green of Pensacola, Fla., and John Michael Green and wife Gina of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Christine Marie Woodrum of Lenoir; one brother, William Green of New York; one sister, Alice Marony of Hyde Park, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Tania Peare, Robert Green, Rachel Owens, Christy Owens; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan Green and MacKenzie Wishion.
No services are planned at this time.

Dan Clayton Bryant, 78, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bryant was born in Caldwell County on June 3, 1934, to the late Clyde Bryant and Pearl Carswell Bryant. He was married to the late Evelyn Bryant.
Mr. Bryant was a devoted father and he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his son, Kim Bryant; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Bryant; and brothers, Vannoy Bryant, Andy Bryant, Paul Bryant, and Ray Bryant.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Bryant; sister, Faye Cooke; and brother, Archie Bryant.
A celebration of Mr. Bryant’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, April 11, at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Leon Morrow and the Rev. Jack Church officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Denver Townsend, Steve Church, Mike Bryant, Rocky Bryant, Sid Bryant, and Steve Bryant.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.

Rosey Lee Long, 75, of Cherokee Court, Hudson, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Hudson. She was born May 9, 1937, in Caldwell County to the late Carl McKinley Mitchell and Cora Viola Watson Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Long; grandson, Wayne Allen Penley; four brothers; and one sister.
Mrs. Long was retired from American Efird. She attended New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Chuch of Hudson.
Survivors include three sons, Elbert “Buddy” Long and wife Annette, George Long and wife Paulette, both of Hudson, and Ray Long and wife Melissa of Lenoir; five daughters, Lillian Coffey and husband Daniel, Vivian Jones and husband Ralph “Red,” both of Lenoir, Evelyn “Jane” Lovelace and husband Dave of Granite Falls, Rachel Coffey and husband Darrel of Hudson, and Rebecca “Becky” Blair and husband Jamie of Rhodhiss; one brother, Earin Mitchell and wife Shirley of Lenoir; one sister, Lola Mae McCloud of Lenoir; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Daniel Buchanan. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Long’s grandsons.

Roger Allen Gregg, PhD, of Lake Gaston passed away on April 6, 2013, at age 74.
Dr. Gregg was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Bessie W. Gregg; his son, Roger A. Gregg Jr.; and his siblings, William L. Gregg Jr., Mary Gregg Freas, Joyce Gregg Rouse, and Ruth Gregg Fitzwater. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Davis Gregg; daughters Cynthia M. Gregg MD and husband Joseph B. Cornett MD of Cary, and Helen Gregg Harris and husband Roland V. Harris, of Raleigh; brothers Thad M. Gregg of Lenoir, and Steward W. Gregg of Greensboro; sisters Arminta Gregg Adams (Larry) of Coral Gables, Fla., Shirley Gregg Barlowe (Ken) of Lenoir, Betty Gregg Malley of Fairfax, Va., and Jeanne Gregg Hudgins (Jim) of Mocksville; and much-loved grandchildren Joseph A. Cornett, Gregg A. Cornett, Brooke E. Harris, Haley M. Harris, and William R. Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished.
Dr. Gregg, a native of Lenoir, received his B.S. with Honors and M.S. degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from N.C. State University in 1960 and 1962, respectively. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and was elected into Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. Dr. Gregg earned his Doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science in 1968 from the University of Florida, where he was admitted into Phi Kappa Phi, the national academic honor society.
Dr. Gregg joined E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. in 1968 where his work included 15 years in Research Development and Administration and 15 years of developing and executing manufacturing and business strategies. His career with DuPont began at the Savannah River Plant near Aiken, S.C., in 1968. At DuPont he held a series of advancing positions, including Plant Manager, Old Hickory Plant in Tennessee; Director of Research and Development, and Director of Global Operations, Agricultural Products, and Global Sourcing in Wilmington, Del. Dr. Gregg retired from DuPont in 1998.
Throughout his life, Dr. Gregg was an obedient servant to God. While in Aiken, S.C., he was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and RA Director for Senior High School boys. He and his wife were also members of First Baptist Church of Henderson, Tenn., and Westside Baptist Church in West Chester, Penn. Dr. and Mrs. Gregg moved to Lake Gaston in 2003, where they have been active members of Olive Branch Baptist Church. Dr. Gregg was always a thoughtful student of the Bible and enjoyed teaching many Sunday School classes.
Family was second only to his Christian faith. He was a loving and responsible son, sibling, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. Dr. Gregg enjoyed drawing, fishing, golf,
genealogy, jazz and a love for life-long learning. The enjoyment of these interests was surpassed by the joy of spending time with his grandchildren.
Dr. Gregg was an active alumnus of N.C. State University. He and his wife established the Roger A. Gregg Jr. Endowed Scholarship of N.C. State University in memory of their son. Dr. Gregg was a member of the Arts N.C. State Board of Directors, N.C. State University Foundation Board, Parks Scholar Selection Committee, and the Friends of the Library.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, at First Baptist Church, 99 Salisbury St., Raleigh, followed by internment at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.

Joyce Carolyn McNeil, 70, of Granite Falls, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Hudson. She was born April 8, 1943, in Caldwell County to the late Robert and Rose Phillips Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny Robert McNeil; three brothers, R.D. Greer, Arthur Greer and Cecil Greer; and two sisters, Reba Greer and Earlene Greer.
Ms. McNeil was retired from Bemis Manufacturing.
Survivors include one daughter, Yvonne Wilkins of the home; special friend, Mike Smith of Marion; one brother, Conard Greer of Lenoir; four sisters, Mary Rhymer of Wilkesboro, Louise Triplett, Shirley Armentrout and Treva Barnett, all of Lenoir; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. John Gray. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Watson Family Cemetery in Deep Gap.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathon Walker, Chucky Pearson, Allen McDonald, Harold Curtis, Bryson Hollar and Daniel Eckerd.
