Marvin Wayne Barlow, 89, of the Kings Creek Community died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born July 6, 1925, in Caldwell County, Mr. Barlow was the husband of the late Mary Dean Icenhour Barlow and the son of the late William Jasper and Hattie Laney Barlow.
Other than his wife and parents, Mr. Barlow is preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Kay Barlow and Debra Faye Barlow.
Mr. Barlow served in the United States Navy during World War II during the Normandy invasion. He was a member of Kings Creek Baptist Church and a founding member of Kings Creek Ruritan Club. He was also a founding member of the Kings Creek Fire Department, where he served on the board for more than 20 years.
Mr. Barlow is survived by his children, Timothy Dean Barlow and wife Donna of Lenoir, Lisa Barlow Rich of the home, and Ronald Wayne Barlow of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Adrienne Barlow Childres and husband Chris of Lenoir, Keisha Barlow Coley of Hickory, Kelli Barlow DiMatteo and husband Pete of Hudson, Kent Barlow and wife Jessica of Morrisville, William Rich and fiancée Casey Payne of Lenoir, and Katie Barlow and fiancé Dalton Luster of Lenoir; and six great-grandchildren, Shea Childres of Lenoir, Keegan Coley of Hickory, Hunter Payne of Lenoir, Lanie and Maddie DiMatteo of Hudson, and Abigayle Luckadoo of Gastonia.
A celebration of Mr. Barlow’s life will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Kings Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Goode officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m., prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.
Pallbearers will be Steve Johnson, Brent Jensen, Gwyn Icenhour, Doug Brookshire, Kenneth Teague and Steve Hedrick.

Lorena Buchanan Clark, 84, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. She was born in Johnson City, Tenn., to the late Bascom Buchanan and Bessie Broyles Buchanan. She was married to Leon Clark of the residence for almost 64 years.
Mrs. Clark joined Trinity United Methodist Church shortly after marrying and was a member of the choir for most of her time there. She was a long-time member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the Cedar Rock Country Club Golf Association and Garden Club. She was an avid supporter of the sports her children and grandchildren participated in and she enjoyed listening and dancing to her country music.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Buchanan; and sisters, Edith Buchanan Greer, Clella Buchanan Cole and Peggy Buchanan Hallow.
Other than her husband, Mrs. Clark is survived by her children, David Clark and wife, Kathy, of Newark, Dela., Lori Harless and husband, Chuck, of Charlotte, and Jodi Sanders and husband, Regan, of Lenoir; brothers, Lewis Buchanan and wife, Lucy of Roanoke, Va., Wayne Buchanan and wife, Sallie, of Hoover, Ala., and Bruce Buchanan and wife, Mollie, of Destin, Fla.; sisters, Wilma Buchanan McGinnis and husband, James, of Lenoir, and Diane Buchanan Oliver of Morganton; grandchildren, Adam Clark, Hilary Clark Hartnett and husband, Bobby, Myra Clark, Jordan Harless, Ryan Harless, Lydia Sanders; and Kelli Sanders; great-grandchildren, Ethan Clark, Julian Clark and Everlee Clark; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A celebration of Mrs. Clark’s life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Uiyeon Kim and the Rev. Joe Parker officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
