Sturges “Tick” Conway Beane, 86, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Beane was born in Burke County on July 23, 1927, to the late Otis P. Beane and Edna Cannon Beane. He retired from Valdese Weavers after working there for more than 40 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Clontz Beane, and five brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his two sons, J.R. Beane and wife Sharon, and Tim Beane and wife Robin; brothers, Nathan Beane and C.W. Beane; sister, Rachel Hepler; grandchildren, Allison Walsh, Thomas Beane and Tiffany Beane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mr. Beane’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerome Walker officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Randy Truett, Doug Greene, Larry Beane, Allan Powell, Tim Saunders, and Shawn Patton. Mike Beane will serve as an Honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Earl Edward Mikeal, 82, of Lenoir passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls.
Mr. Mikeal was born in Caldwell County to the late Morris Boone Mikeal and Louise Fox Mikeal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Clark Mikeal; a brother, Clyde Mikeal; sisters, Juanita Suddreth and Gladys Caldwell. He was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and attended New Beginnings Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Meleah “Sis” Mikeal of Lenoir; his son, “Duck” Mikeal and wife Susan of Lenoir; sisters, Edith Crouch of Hudson and Grace Russell of Boomer; four grandchildren, Jason Mikeal, Courtney Carlton, Daniel Goulds and Leah Goulds; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at New Beginnings Baptist Church from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Buchanan and the Rev. David Noyce officiating. Burial will follow at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Mikeal, Lynn Beane, Jason Mikeal, Daniel Goulds, Eric Kincaid and Brent Hartley. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Kincaid and Denny Mackie.

Ruth Taylor Adkins, 86, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. She was born in Caldwell County on Sept. 9, 1927, to the late Glen Taylor and Jesse Link Taylor. She was married to Clyde Troy Adkins of the residence for more than 67 years. Mrs. Adkins spent all but the last five years of her life living in Lenoir before moving to Ferguson.
Mrs. Adkins was a devoted wife and a wonderful homemaker, loving nothing more than taking care of her sons. In her later years she loved traveling with her many friends. She and her husband were devoted members of West Lenoir Baptist Church for many years where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Alan E. Adkins.
Other than her husband Mrs. Adkins is survived by her sons, Ronnie Lee Adkins and wife Debra of Charlotte; Eric Troy Adkins and wife Debra of Ferguson; brother, Walter Taylor and wife Sue of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Catherine Profitt and husband Bill of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mavis Fleming of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren, Danielle Adkins of Charlotte; Scott Adkins of Lenoir; David Adkins of Morganton; Kim Keil of Conover; Nichole Parga of Ferguson; Angela Perez of Wilkesboro; and three great-grandchildren.
