Virginia Bentley

Virginia Ginger Bentley, 55, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center, S.C.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Bass-Smith Granite Chapel with the Rev. Mike Costner officiating.

Jesse Cook

Jesse James Cook, 57, of Morganton died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.

A Funeral Service will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage.

Ronald Baucom

Ronald Lander Baucom, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. He was born in Rock Hill, S.C., on July 15, 1966, to the late William Fulton Baucom and Harriet Lander Baucom. He was married to Elizabeth Gragg Baucom of the residence. Ronald was an employee of Furniture Brands in Lenoir.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Samuel Baucom Sr.

Other than his wife he is survived by his son, Corey Lander Baucom and wife Jessica; stepdaughters, Christan McLean and Leslie McLean; brother, William Baucom and wife Vickie of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandsons, Isaiah Gordon Shatley and Cameron Jacob McLean; soon-to-be grandson Colton Lander Baucom; niece, Miranda Nicole Baucom; nephews, Earl Samuel Baucom Jr., Ronald Christopher Baucom, Michael Baucom and wife Kim of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 12 noon with Pastor Raymond Spann officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Coffey Cemetery in Carey’s Flat.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Shatley, Chris “Scooter” Baucom, Earl “Tookie” Baucom, Michael Baucom, Thomas Ward, Mike Gann, J.R. Todd, and Jon Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Ledford and Ron Church.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, from 6 until 7:30 p.m.

Mary Taylor

Mary Ellen Winebarger Taylor, 96, of Walsh Road, Lenoir, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the residence. She was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Watauga County to the late Jacob Joseph and Laura Ann Phillips Winebarger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Franklin Taylor; daughter, Ann Taylor Norris; and brother, Conard Winebarger.

Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church in Watauga County.

Survivors include four sons, Charles J. Taylor and wife Beryl, and Eugene Taylor and wife Darlene, both of Lenoir, Ray R. Taylor and wife Hilda of Gamewell, and Bill C. Taylor and wife Mary of Hudson; two daughters, Winna Storie and husband Carl of Lenoir, and Lou Ellen Jones and husband Jim of Boone; son-in-law, Jeff Norris and wife Gayle of Lenoir; nephew, Burl Taylor and wife Carol of Lenoir; sister, Ruth Winebarger of Boone; 14 grandchildren, Jeff, Greg and Charles Taylor, Mariann Keller, Laura Adkins, Monica Hoover, Stuart and Mike Norris, Kim Coleman, Andrea Gladden, Brian Taylor, Tim and Chris Martin and Shannon Brunet; great-grandchildren, Erin and Anna Taylor, Mary Beth Keller, Chloe, Matthew Adkins, James Noe, Jake, Jessie, Maggie Taylor, Bradley, Marcus and Taylor Hoover, Sam and Callie Norris, Grant, Kenan and Mia Norris, Keigan and Aislyn Coleman, Abigal Gladden, Rayn and Skye Martin, Bailey and Brayden Martin and Xavier Brunet; niece, Ann Trivette; and one nephew, Conley Winebarger.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Livingston and the Rev. Jobie Borders. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Jeff Taylor, Greg Taylor, Charles Taylor, Mike Norris, Stuart Norris, Tim Martin, Chris Martin and Brian Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Randy Keller, Jimmy Noe, Tommy Hoover, Jason Coleman, Tommy Gladden and Bernard Brunet.

Gary Bryant

Gary Grant Bryant, 72, of Sunset Street, Hudson, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Caldwell County to the late Oscar “Red” and Minnie Jones Bryant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Bryant; and sister, Phyllis Bryant.

Mr. Bryant operated, with his father, American Amoco Service Station. He later opened up his own body shop. He enjoyed restoring old cars, NASCAR racing and spending time with his family, grandchildren and the garage gang.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Barbara Davis Bryant of the home; one son, Michael W. Bryant of Baton; one daughter, Mrs. Sandra B. Hamby and husband Gary of Lenoir; sister, Rebecca Cole; grandchildren, who called him “Poppie,” Angela, Jarred, Casey, Ethan, Jessica, Phillip, Daniel, Jacob; four great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mabel Davis of Lenoir; sister-in-law, Geraldine Walsh and husband Benny of Lenoir; two brothers-in-law, Steve Davis and wife Judy and Sam Davis and wife Sherry, both of Lenoir; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives; many special neighbors; and loving cat, Ms. Black.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Larry Winkler. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Wilson, Brian Gragg, Darrin Bryant, Steve Davis, Sam Davis, Jerry Cole.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Anderson, Bob Whittington, Jerry Austin, Joe Miller and Frank Coffey.

Gaynell Church

Gaynell Roope Church, 84, of Lenoir, widow of Avery Clarence Church Sr., died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Rick Church and Sister Marilyn Boughman officiating. Burial will be in the Church Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Mrs. Church was born July 19, 1929, in Iredell County to George Calloway and Elizabeth Wyatt Roope. She was a member of the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of God in Lenoir.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Kennon of Reidsville, and Darlene Moore of Douglasville, Ga.; four sons, Avery Clarence Church Jr. and wife Brenda of Jonesville, the Rev. Rick Church and wife Joyce of Summerfield, Paul Church and wife Cindy of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Kenneth Church and wife Kathy of Burlington; three sisters, Agnes Baker of Wilkesboro, Marie Eller of North Wilkesboro, and Maureen Jones of Warsaw; 16 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Teresa Watson

Teresa Kay Crews Watson, 52, wife of Kenneth Eugene Watson of Boomer, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Sharon Walker Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Staley, the Rev. Fred Howell, and the Rev. Dean Adams officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6 until 8 Thursday night.

Mrs. Watson was born in Wilkes County on July 30, 1961, to Paul and Maxine Johnson Crews. She was a member of Sharon Walker Baptist Church. Mrs. Watson was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband of 36 years, Mrs. Watson is survived by one daughter, Debra Huffman and husband Stacy of Boomer; three sisters, JoAnn Scott and husband Gene of Boomer, Sherry Scott of Hays, and Barbara Rash of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, David Crews of Purlear and Junior Crews and wife Gail of Millers Creek; and one grandchild, Tyler Foster of Boomer.
