Violet Shuford Ingle, 92, of Granite Falls died Oct. 24, 2013.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Dry Ponds Baptist Church, Granite Falls. Funeral service will follow. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Ned Wilson Davis
Ned Wilson Davis, 86, of Hillsfarm Street, Lenoir, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at his residence. He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Wilkes County to the late Walter and Sally Hall Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Davis, Carl Davis and Wayne Davis.
Mr. Davis was a self-employed building contractor and was owner of Davis Construction Company. He was a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church for over 70 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Darene Church Davis of the home; one son, Bradley Ned Davis and wife Lisa of Lenoir; one daughter, Beth Davis of Lenoir; one grandchild, Matthew Ryan Davis; one sister-in-law, Jerrie Davis; two nieces; and six nephews.
Celebration of life services will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m. at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Frank Hall and the Rev. Hal Vannoy. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.

Len W. Hodges
Due to a sudden family illness, the funeral services for Len W. Hodges originally scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28, have been postponed until Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Family visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Helen Haskins Anderson, 91, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Springs of Catawba in Hickory. She was born in Catawba County on May 4, 1922, to the late Albert M. Haskins and Bertha Wise Haskins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Anderson; brother, Guy Haskins; and sisters, Louise Sommers and Doris Owens.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles L.Anderson and Linda, and J. Albert Anderson and Camille; granddaughter, Lea Anderson Kaplan; step-grandsons, Dustin Crump and Dylan Crump; nieces, Daphne Kahill and Martha Owens; and nephew, Mark Owens.
A celebration of Mrs. Anderson’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, Oct. 28, at noon with Dr. David Smith and Pastor Lonnie Bell officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chris Gibbons, Gary Sanders, Dylan Crump, Jarrett Anderson, Kirby Anderson and Kevin Eller. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon prior to the service.

Alene Bristol Horton, 85, of Victoria Court, Lenoir, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born March 25, 1928, in Burke County to the late Alonzo and Corrie E. Henderson Bristol.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Horton Sr.; daughters, Vina Drucilla Horton and Corrie Elizabeth Horton; grandson, Terrence D. Corpening; and great-grandson, Shafton Devante Kiry Johnson. She was the last living of 13 children.
Mrs. Horton was retired from Bernhardt Furniture Company of Lenoir and was a member of First Church of God of Lenoir.
Survivors include two sons, Hubert Horton Jr. of Lexington, and Ronald S. Horton and wife Carolyn of Hope Mills; two daughters, Sheila D. Harper and Mycenia E. Horton of the home; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at First Church of God of Lenoir conducted by the Rev. Jerome Pearson and Rev. Jeris Parsons. Interment will follow at Harpertown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Horton’s grandsons and flower bearers will be her nieces.
